    A5 Chokes

In preparation of shooting steel shot out of an A5 using invector chokes, can you use the factory chokes that came with the shotgun or are there special chokes for steel? I guess I have the same question for modern shotguns (purchased in the past several years).

Steel shot is going to be a new game for me. I'm sure others have similar questions.

    Thanks guys!

Most chokes tell you not to shoot steel bigger than BB out of a full or tighter choke. Other than that you should be fine shooting steel out of your A5.

It is my understanding that the Japanese (Miroku) barrels will fit the Belgian A5s, and are safe for steel shot with chokes up to Mod and sensible shot sizes. Call Browning to confirm.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my question as I should have been. I understand that the Japanese A5 can shoot steel. But I've also seen a good number of choke manufacturers selling A5 invector chokes that are specifically designed for steel shot.

          ><

All the Browning chokes are good to go...some will be marked Steel eq and Lead EQ ....as in Mod-Lead, Full-Steel.

If they are just marked with one ---MOD then assume its the lead eq and steel will shoot one choke tighter

No steel through chokes only marked FULL---that would be X- FULL steel.

          Also keep in mind
Steel patterns tend to blow apart with tight chokes....lots of people will go to a tighter choke thinking it will tighten up the pattern.....when they need to use a more open choke to get a tighter pattern.

Different shells, shot size and also the shot weight in a shell will drastically effect patterns.

What he said. All Browning Invector and later chokes are steel compatible (with limits).

I have an old Belgian A5 with a full choke barrel, wondering if it would be practical to have the barrel modified to accept screw in chokes?

You could prolly pick up a Japanese barrel and be ahead.
