    Second time shooting Skeet

My second Sunday shooting Skeet and I am hooked. Met some really cool guys and had a blast for the second time in a row. I have to start getting the right gear now as for storing shells like a pouch. Any suggestions are more than welcome.

Also any suggestions for type of loads people use? I shot a Browning A5 12 Gauge today Belgium model and it actually cycled with 1oz loads with the friction rings set for magnum loads. Any particular brand ammo you all use? Thank you in advance!

skeet is a blast! any kind of pouch or vest is fine, doesn't have to be a pricey one just functional, for skeet 8 to 9 shot is best, 1oz loads have less kick, but do the job just fine, 1 1/8 is more common store bought ammo, we shoot local every weekend, mostly triple b's feel free to join us any time!!

          ><

Vest or pouch ..... Look on ebay for a used one. Vest, get a mesh, get hot in warm weather and mesh helps.

          shells--- buy what is on sale--- # 7 1/2 , #8 or 9

Chokes---Cylinder or Skeet work best followed by IC , mod , full

Have fun out there.....if you have any questions, PM me

Thanks a lot for the info. whutsup40 when you say you shoot every weekend, are you referring to sansei skeet association? I shot twice at Oak Tree and plan on going again next Sunday, but I am open to try other places also.

If your within driving distance of Triple B ....look up the Socal Skeet clinic on the top of the Shotgun forum.

Great way to get a lot of instruction for little money

I shoot somewhere every weekend, sansei is once a month, big bonanza blast at moore/ moore is once a month, was a member at oaktree up until this year, there skeet fields are getting a little run down, triple B's in El Monte has nicer fields plus there are more than 2, this weekend is moore/moore sporting clays, you can message me any time and come shoot with us, there are 4 to 6 of us that shoot weekly, come join us

If you want run down skeet fields, try Prado in Chino Hills. I vote for Triple-B and would go there more often if the drive wasn't so far for me. As for ammo, I reload but unless you are really into it, just buy the Federal paks at Walmart. That or if you get out to Azusa, go to Rick's to buy factory loads. Don't spend any big money on a gun unless you are first fitted by a real gun fitter; not just any skeet instructor. The most important things to remember; be safe and courteous.

For skeet a 20 gauge is more confortable to shoot, 7/8 oz is plenty to bust the clay at that distance. Screw in choke is a plus but dedicated skeet guns with skeet choke is even better. 12 gauge ammo is relatively inexpensive, 1oz is good, #9 shot will provide a bit more advantage.

I recently got into sporting clays myself and received a private lesson where I asked the same question. My instructors suggestion was to look for 1oz #7.5 or #8 and common brands most people use is AA Winchester, Federal, and Fiocchi.

Recently I have been using estate #8 1200 FPS and it has been working well for me. Plus it is not that expensive and can be found on sale from time to time at Big5

Sorry for my question, just want to get in to clay shooting. Are the Walmart $20 for 100(4 boxes) not good or more expensive?

Until you make the Olympic team, the $21.74 Federal 4-packs at WalMart are fine.
