    Moving to California question

    Hi,
I'm moving to California soon. I have a 20in 590a1 that is an 8+1. Is that legal in California? Could I just bring it with me or is there some special procedure for bringing it into your state?

Use the CA Shotgun Flowchart. Link located right above your name, when you log in.

    Also look at: https://oag.ca.gov/firearms/ab991

In addition to the links that BOBBGA provided you can also contact directly, phone or internet, Mossberg dealers in Ca.

Let them know the specific set up of your 590A1 and any additions to it.

I'm not sure of all the particulars. This forum does have stickys about that. That you need to look at and ask about. There are two issues. It does not look like your Mossberg 590A1 is on the assault weapons list and so banned outright.

But it may not have been submitted by Mossberg for safety testing in Ca. That testing requires a fee for each gun submitted. I don't know if they did that. The Mossberg dealers should know.

A San Diego gun store for California Legal Guns and tactical equipment not found anywhere else. We carry the best selection California Legal Rifles, Pistols and Shotguns. Also, a well-priced source of firearms among all San Diego Gun Store.

      Hope this helps.

It's a pump shotgun that has an 18" bbl and over 26" OAL. You're fine unless you've removed the stock or something funky.

There are time frames where you have to register as a resident and another time frame where you have to register your firearms as a new resident. There should be a sticky around here about it.

OP’s got a 100% rating on iTrader with 41 transactions. Kind of person we want in the state. Call Riflegear. They sell the same gun but are out of stock.

            Half right. It's legal.

            Penal Code 27560 says
            27560.

            (a) Within 60 days of bringing a handgun, and commencing January 1, 2014, any firearm, into this state, a personal firearm importer shall do one of the following:

            (1) Forward by prepaid mail or deliver in person to the Department of Justice, a report prescribed by the department including information concerning that individual and a description of the firearm in question.

            (2) Sell or transfer the firearm in accordance with the provisions of Section 27545 or in accordance with the provisions of an exemption from Section 27545.

            (3) Sell or transfer the firearm to a dealer licensed pursuant to Article 1 (commencing with Section 26700) and Article 2 (commencing with Section 26800) of Chapter 2.

            (4) Sell or transfer the firearm to a sheriff or police department.

                Librarian,

Penal Code 27560 applies specifically to pistols, correct? Since OP's is a shotgun, he shouldn't have to register anything, unless I've missed the PC for it.

I think the residency declaration with DMV was 20 days from moving to CA also and that should come first before any DOJ thing.

Until Jan 1, 2014, it was pistols only. But the text quoted included "commencing January 1, 2014, any firearm,"

If he has CA ID, he could do that.

                    Oh, you're right. Selective reading.

So, OP has 20 days to declare residence, then 60 days to declare the firearm.

Yes it’s legal in California. I bought one 6minths ago. Not sure about the laws on bringing one in though.
