I'll try to be brief. A few years back I purchased a Miroku Charles Daly 800
20 gauge O/U in immaculate condition. I've had it looked at by several gunsmiths who believe it to be a Superior grade (very nice detailed engraving).
Last month I was contacted by the local gun shop that it was purchased. The gun shop owner was cleaning out his shop's safes and had found the original shotgun's hard case and some paperwork for this shotgun. Attached to the case was an SFO (San Francisco Airport) airline tag with the previous owners name.
Being that the name was unique I traced it to the owner (now deceased) and found out that he was a retired air force pilot stationed in Korea and Japan back in the 50's, 60's and 70's. He later flew for Pan Am Airlines's Asian routes and apparently was a big deal pilot who flew the escort jet for the President of the United States. The gun shop owner purchased the original owner's firearm collection from either his wife, son or daughter. I then purchased it.
I've previously posted photos of the shotgun on CG. It's beautiful and a great shooter! Kind of a cool story. From what I read from several online sources, he was a notable Air Force and airline pilot. The shotgun was manufactured in 1969 in the Miroku plant for Charles Daly. Two owners in almost 50 years. If it wasn't for the name tag attached to the hard case, I would not have been able to trace the background on this shotgun.
