    Pump shotgun without pistol grip

Is it possible to have a pump shotgun that is 30" with a pistol grip only? (No stock)

    How about under 30"?

Are you open to an AOW? Or just a pistol only grip shotgun like mossberg sells

      18”/26”

If I recall correctly, shotguns in California need both 18” and up barrels and 26” or longer overall length.

Shorter that those dimensions are not legal in CA

I would prefer to not go the AOW route. Would a Mossberg with 18" barrel and pistol grip only be ok?

Or I guess any shotgun that is under 30" in OAL...not sure if that's possible while satisfying the 18" barrel

A Mossberg 500 with the factory 18.5" long barrel installed is 26" long from the rear of the receiver to the front of the barrel.
I would never fire this gun without some kind of grip or stock installed.
Turner's and many others sell the Mossbergs with pistol grips, either with PG only or usually with a PG as part of a combo set.

There might be some legal advantage to purchasing a Mossberg 500 that comes with a pistol grip only, since it has never been a long gun.
This would be if you are considering trying to go shorter as an AOW conversion someday.

Isn't a shotgun supposed to be fired from shoulder?

mossberg 500 pistol grip at turners under 30" I believe probably 28

keltec (better Choice my opionion) 26.1" higher ammo capacity and shoulder fired.

Apparently it is legal. And I am quite sure it is not a shotgun as per the law. I was perplexed.

Some further digging reveals that it falls into the category of pistol grip firearms (PGF). It is not as regulated as AOW. One catch is that it must be built from a virgin receiver that has never been fitted with a butt stock.

It is really not a shotgun.
