Light Recommendation For Mossberg Please

OK i have scoured over post after post and looked at tons of lights which has only gotten me more frustrated and lost. I am looking for a light to mount on my Mossberg 590. I have this mount for it. I would prefer a light that can simply be switched on. I had thought about doing the touch pad and attaching it to the fore end but plan to upgrade my stock fore end to the Hogue and figure there will be no real way to attach it without it continuously falling off. Not looking to spend a fortune on a light but do want good stuff that is going to hold up to shock load. Is the light picture the Surefire 6P?

How about a setup like this. Mag tube adapter with Picatinny rail and then use a weapons light with the momentary/on-off switch already incorporated into the tail cap.

I ended up getting a Pelican M6 with an upgraded bulb and lens, but it really depends on your intended use. I have it as a home defense gun, so a really bright light with shot run-time (30-40 minutes) is still plenty.

That is one of the threads I spent a lot of time reading actually. The short run time is fine as mine is also being used for HD. I just want something that fits my mount and is very bright and shock proof

Do you have the name or model of the mount that you already own? Do you know the inside diameter of the flashlight part? I figure that the biggest issue would be a flashlight that is too big and doesn't let the screw hold it closed. On the other hand, a flashlight too small would slip right out.

The Pelican that I ended up with and the Surefire G2 are both about 1" in diameter. The VTAC L4 LED light (as mentioned in the other post) is slightly smaller.

Since you read the other thread, you also know that almost all LED and most incandescent flashlights are going to hold up to the shock of a shotgun.

Let us know what you decide on.

P.S. Here's a link to pics of my shotgun with the Pelican light mounted. I used a 3rd party forearm that has Picatinny rails like the one SCMA-1 suggested.

Yeah my mount holds flashlights wiht the 1" diameter. I think I am going to go with the Suefire 6P-LED

Sorry, but the reason I suggested a different system is because you said you wanted a light that can be switched "on". The 6P has a momentary tailcap; you must twist it all the way in one direction for it to stay on or off. The rail mounted lights such as Streamlight/Insight have a rocker switch that gives you both momentary and constant on off.

I would choose the light to suit your needs first then select the mounting interface to the weapon.

I own a half a dozen Surefire weapons mounted lights which were all purchased more than 12 years ago; back then the prices were already steep but now they are just plain ridiculous so that's why I'm always looking for alternatives. I found this system on another thread; looks comparable to SureFire (and parts are all interchangeable) but much cheaper:

If you are going to use a 6p spend the extra money and buy a recoil damping bezel. It has a rubber sleeve inside that lets the lamp assembly recoil less abruptly than the rest of the gun. If you don't you will go through lamps like a crazy person (ask me how I know). Even with the right bezel assembly you will eat lamps. I have used lots of surefire fore end lights and broken many lamps. For training it's best to remove the lamp and batteries.

The Fenix lights seem to be a good alternative price wise, but i am really not to keen on buying from Made In China

You don't want to use the SF recoil bezel with an LED, as it reduces heat transfer.

Best bet for a simple, inexpensive light, IMO, is the Surefire 6P with LED and clickie tailcap (6PL Defender comes that way), or the Fenix TK10 or TK11, if you don't mind Fenix. The Fenix comes with a clickie tailcap, and can run in medium and high output modes by twisting the bezel, which I like the flexibility of.

The G2L with a clickie tailcap will work as well, but it's slightly larger diameter than the 6P or TK11, and some mounts won't work with it. The new G2L comes with a metal bezel for better heat dissipation. It's also lighter, if that matters.

The Fenix has better color, better regulation, better throw, and longer runtime than the 6P or G2, as well. My Fenix lights have held up very well to real-world use.
