Shotgun break-in?

I purchased a new Mossberg 500SPX last weekend and will pick it up later next week. I would like to take it to the range on Friday and have read about "breaking it in". I bought this because I seem to be able to target better with a shotgun, probably a file as well, than my S&W 686. Think it has to do with the sights. I can see the ones on the shotgun way better and actually hit the bulls eye more than the S&W. Maybe new glass are in order.

Anyway, I was going to shoot some Federal Sabot slugs and try a box of Federal Top Gun Target shells. From the specs, the 500SPX is a rifled cylinder bore so the Sabot slugs would be correct? Yes that is a question.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

no need to break it in, the barrel is a smoothbore. The wads are plastic.

The only break in a shotgun would need is if it has a rough or tight action that can be cured with hours of racking the gun in front of the TV.

Just shoot it! It will break in!

You should start with a bar of soap in a tube sock (sport stripes not required). Have your wife/girl/man/sister/friend hit you in the shooting-shoulder with it. when you can handle the pain, move up to a masterlock (industrial type) and a short piece of chain.

If you plan on using pistol grip and no buttstock. Break in by hitting the webbing of your hand with a small ball peen hammer, move up to large framing hammer and full barn-raising swing.

Ditto this for firing Bulgarian heavy ball out of a Mosin of any sort.

OR......... you could get a Knoxx SPECOPS /no-recoil stock and let the wife shoot it till she runs out of shells. Don't make any plans for the next day cuz she'll want to go back to the range. Now I just buy her a case of Winnie #8 Target loads and she has a blast.

if it is, its still plastic or paper sabots from slugs, you can shoot all you want, the only thing you'll get is plastic fouling
