    Williams sights for Mossberg 500

So I bought the Williams sight set with integrated rail on the back for my Mossberg 500 . The problem is it also came with a dovetail front sight . Do any MB 500's come with a dovetail front sight ? Mine just comes with a screw in bead sight . So now I'm looking for a front sight base that will except the dovetail insert . How ever My 500 is the tactical version that flares out a little fatter at the muzzle to an even 1" diameter . The largest front sight base I can find is .875" . Am I stuck with that and just bed it with JB weld or something ??

Is there a 1" diameter front sight base that fits a dovetail insert ?

What about a very tall bead sight that will screw into the existing hole/thread because the rear sight sits up to high to use the factory bead ?

There isn't a really good way to do this, and I sympathize with you on this.

You can send that one back and get the Mossberg or XS Sight Kit, and have someone install it, or buy the 20" barrel and magazine from Brownell's that has the Williams Sights already mounted...

The XS kit uses a Clamp on Front Sight and the Rear Sight/Rail uses existing Screw holes on the top of the Receiver (if they are there) Neither one of my guns have those holes but it is pretty cheap to have them drilled and tapped by a gunsmith or talented machinist. (I am a talented machinist, but not looking for work.)

My Tac Gun originally came with a 18" bbl with a gold bead on it.

I bought the 20" barrel and long magazine from Brownell's and replaced that short barrel, and the new barrel came with the Williams Sights already mounted. Added Magpul Furniture and this and that.

Shop shotgun parts (651) at Brownells, perfect for gunsmithing, repairs, and modifications. Explore stocks, barrels, chokes, and more for fixing or upgrading your shotgun.

My other gun I got recently was a Field Gun and it got the furniture, 18" barrel and magazine from the first gun on it. It is now my dedicated Home Defense Gun and as such it only got a XS Big Dot Tritium Bead Glued over the existing gold bead.

I looked long and hard over the last month or so for a viable set of easy to install rifle sights for the second gun and unless you want to pay $150+ for a set you are out of luck. There is exactly two sets for that gun available and both have one or another problem with installation.

The Mossberg Set, originally for the 590 guns, requires the Front Sight to be Silver Soldered on, a major PITB unless you do it everyday, and destroys the bluing on the barrel. The Rear Sight uses existing rail mount holes if they are there. Otherwise they must be D&T'd.

The XS set has a clamp on Front Sight but it is made for a 7/8" barrel dia. Rear Sight/Rail uses the same receiver screw holes, if they are there.

Since my second gun is a dedicated HD Gun I elected to go with the Tritium Front Bead only, as my farthest shot with that gun might be 25-35 yards and more likely <10 ,so the bead is more than adequate.

It also got a Velcro Side Saddle, and the Big Safety Button, and a Light.

How high does the XS big dot sit off the barrel ? That may work just fine if it's up above the rail height . If I had to I can just put a piece of all thread or cut a screw off screwed into the front sight hole . That would pretty much be just like a peep sight but would totally be a snag hazard .

I found this that might work but there blade insert would be to high I'd think but maybe the Williams blade will fit this dove tail

So the mossberg 590 A1 or some variety came with a dovetail front sight

You could get this Base from mossberg and silver solder the Base onto your barrel. Then add your new insert

            M

As others have said... cheaper to sell your barrel and buy a barrel with the sights on it than to hire a smith to silver solder it on

Hermosabeach . I like those sights for sure but need the rail that is part of the Williams sight . I plan to put a micro dot on it but want back up sights . Except for my target rifles I try to have secondary sights on my long guns that use an optic . Thanks though still a consideration

Metal God : When the big dot is in place, the top of it is directly in line with the top of the receiver. I checked this with a strait edge and it lines up perfectly.

However I won't know exactly what sight picture works until after I pattern the thing. The big dot is considerably higher than the stock bead was so I am guessing it will shoot lower than it did before.

Optimally I would like the Big Dot just atop the receiver as the preferred sight picture. That way you just put the dot on the target and let fly.

I think that will be the case out to a certain yardage, say 25 yards, and if so it is good to go for the intended purpose of this gun which is strictly Home Defense.

I have the other M500 with sights for TAC use, IE 3 gun. It is dead on at 50 yards with Fed Lo Recoil Slugs.

I installed the Front Sight, the Big Safety, and Side Saddle on the gun last night and all that is left is mounting the light to it.

After reading your post again I think the XS set up with the Rear Sight with rail would be your best bet. Then you have your back up sights and a rail to mount your dot too. All you'd have to do is D&T the receiver if it isn't already done. If It is done, then it's a bolt on.

                Look here: http://www.xssights.com/Detail.aspx?...93360&CAT=8265

                Hope this helps.
