Once again thanks to the forum on the advice for my new shotgun. Took it out to the trap range for its first shots today. My impressions are as follows...
Bad:
The fit and finish on this gun is below average. The wood, while having a nice grain and color, is not as finely matched to the reciever as other semi autos. There are some small spots where there is no bluing on the barrel and some rough edges on the vented rib. The butt pad isn't even on the stock and is textured and sticky so that it grabs the clothing. The front bead sight is a little larger than I'm used to and looks like cheap plastic rather than the brass one I've seen on most other shotguns.
Good:
Holy crap does this thing shoot! I didn't bother cleaning before taking it out so the action was a little sluggish at the start. Twice I had to push a round home, but after the first 25 there were no problems and not a single extraction or ejection related problem. I was on the line by myself so I broke singles etiquette and loaded two rounds to check feeding. All was well using Estate #7.5 shot target loads. Soft shooting is an understatement, I feel like I could shoot all day with this gun. Softer than any other shotgun I have ever fired.
This was my first time shooting with a modified choke and it absolutely obliterated those clays. I felt like I had a ton of extra range over my cylinder bore A5. My scores were 19/25/22/22, and the 25 was my first perfect run ever!
TL,DR
For $600 otd the Mossberg 930 "All Purpose Field" performs well above its price point thanks to saving a little cost on fit and finish.
