    need some opinion

well, i was looking through other threads to see if anyone had answers to my questions but i couldn't find anything so i thought i'd ask.
i'm looking for a tactical 12ga. to keep at home but i'm not sure which one i should get. at first i really liked the 870 (of course ) but now i don't want a pump action. also want something short like a 18" but will go longer in order to hold more rounds. i also want something that has aftermarket options like the 870. any ideas? what do you guys think of 18" vs 22"+? is it a big difference?

    TIA for the help.

Big budget a M2 Benelli bigger budget Benelli M4, small budget Mossberg 930. As far as aftermarket stuff to put on your gun, spend the money on training.

If you're on a budget, look at the Beretta 1200FP; it's basically the same action as the Benelli M1's but alot cheaper. I picked one up back in the day for $400; I don't know what they are going for nowadays.

Look at the Remington 1100 Tactical. It has a 18" barrel, semi automatic, and you can get a a surefire forend for it as well.

i've been looking at both the 1100 and 870. i just need something that won't break the bank since this will just sit at home anyway.
              thanks for the help.

When I was a probation officer in NYS I had a case assigned to me for a report on a murder with a 12g shotgun loaded with a Federal Mark 5 shell containing #5 shot .The victims' chest & abdomen were shredded, his fly zipper was located in his vertebral column as were parts of his t shirt and pants ,the plastic wad was there also. The force from the shot knocked him down the stairwell to the first floor landing where he expired. After my work experiences I've never purchased any high capacity riot shotguns .Inside of a home you're going to be at close range so any shotgun loaded with birdshot will incapacitate a perp ,if you buy slugs they'll punch a hole and keep on traveling thru walls endangering others same with double ought it will cut a perp in half and those 32 caliber pellets will not all be stopped by a human body.I've fired a 12g 00 factory load at a steel barrel & punched a hole thru it if it goes thru steel it will go thru dry wall into another room where your children or wife are located endangering them. I have several shotguns that I use for trap shooting & hunting with the reloads I make up .My trap loads using 1 oz or 1 1/8oz of 4's,5's,6's or 7 1/2's have a velocity of 1425+fps pulverizes claytargets & brings upland game birds down, never had to use them against a human but from the pattern it would be devastatingly fatal!

An 870 is a good, cheap, reliable choice. If you wait for a Turner's sale you can get them at a decent price. As posted above, you really don't need the high capacity. For an intruder you only need 1 or 2 shots.

An 870 with the 7rd tube plus a Surefire foregrip is perfect for what you need. IMHO.

thanks, i read another thread while doing research and someone made a good point. they said they you probably won't need that many rounds but its better to have and not need then to need and not have.
anyway, what would be a good price for a 870 tac.?
would it be better to check out big5 or a gun shop?

I'm about to put together a HD shotgun using either an Iver Johnson 16ga single shot, or a H&R/NEF single shot 12ga.
I'm gonna adapt it using accessories from ATI

With practice reloading is quick, and at close quarters, scr83jp is right "loads using 1 oz or 1 1/8oz of 4's,5's,6's or 7 1/2's have a velocity of 1425+fps".
That'll do it! As for semi's and pumps, how many 3-4 inch rat-holes you gonna put in the perp? Remember, you will have to justify your actions!

Well, this only really applies to the Benelli M4 and not semis in general but...it is so heavy you could just club the perp with it...that alone would put them out mighty fast, no need to load it at all.
