    Wingmaster

So I ran across as Wingmaster that I could not pass up for my son. It's a gun that he will have to grow into but he can handle my Beretta 390 now. It was just too clean to pass up.

My question is the length of the barrel and the choke. It's and older gun with a 30" barrel and a full choke. I am leaning towards having it shortened to 28" and having Rem Chokes installed. The other path is a new barrel. Has anyone had tubes installed in an older Wingmaster? If so anyone that you would trust to do so down in Orange County or should I ship it out? This would be his all around shotgun. We shoot sporting clays and will get back into upland hunting.

For gods sake don't butcher it. Get a choked shotgun at Big5 if need be. Leave it original.

My Wingmaster is from the 1970's...........the barrel is 28" and originally had a fixed mod choke. In the 1980's close friend worked for Pachmayr and got me a great deal on having Browning Invector choke tubes installed.
Work out just fine for me!
          * If it were me I'd leave the barrel ant 30" and just have tubes installed!

I bought a 870 express barrel on eBay for 90$ new . When I let the men in my Chuch group shoot it they are just happy . I clean it when I get home wipe it with oil . I bought a 870 Magnum last Christmas used at 400$ it will remain original .

THIS! Don't cut up the original barrel if you've got a super clean, old wingmaster.

I got one from my FIL many years ago with a 30" full choke barrel. The wood is in terrific shape as well. I bought a 28" barrel with adjustable chokes, and replaced the wood with synthetic stock/fore end. It's a great duck gun now, and I have the original furniture should I ever want to dress it up in it's original form.

This, he put removable chokes in my dad's fixed choke 870.

Buy a new barrel, keep the old one on hand. If this is a gift to your son he may want it's original condition someday for a sale, or just a nostalgia piece.

One thing I missed ,the barrel I bought on eBay was a 26 inch for 90$ . That 30 inch will be for when he is older . I bought a 18.5 inch at Fowlers gun room for 130$ ,Mossburg also makes a 18 inch home security barrel , eBay also sells a China made 18 inch that I would not want to buy.
