    12G Slug Shot...How Far?

Shot a slug out to about 120-125 yards yesterday. Target was steel and the size of an IDPA target. What's the farthest you've shot with a hit? Curious...

My farthest pig was 148yds and my farthest deer was 156yds, both were one shot kills taken with a Savage 210 shooting Federal Barnes X slugs.

I shot the steel pig at 200 yards with at the Angeles Shooting Range with the shotgun. Not too much fun to shoot full power slugs out of a light weight shotgun. Wasn't that hard really, no wind, aimed high, from the bench. Then again thats how I hit the 600 yard pig there too. No wind, aimed a little high and from the bench, oh wait, that was with the 338 Lapua.

I shoot a Savage 210 with a 24" rifled barrel, sabot slugs, weaver grand slam base, Leupold PWR rings and a VX-II 3-9x40.

Smooth bore in the Mossberg and Benelli M1. Oh and I've hit steel IPSC targets around 110 yards during a match with Win Low Recoil Slugs. You have to aim high.

Forgot to add, elevated ghost site, no optics. That pretty good shooting for some of the folks posting. I just figured at least 100 yards was good shooting without optics. Mine is a Benelli M1 Super 90 with an 18" barrel that I use for 3-Gun competition, smooth bore, trigger job...

My longest was 75 yards, with trijicon-style rifle sights, smoothbore IC. 2.5" accuracy (3 shots), so I am pretty confident that it could still be pretty good on 125 yds, maybe a bit more.

When Lytle Creek had their steel targets up at the 200yrd. line, I hit one with a slug out of my 12ga. old Ithaca Featherlite. It has a 19" barrel and a bead sight.

I was just shooting at it for grins and giggles as I had no idea how far the slug would go.
