Ported Barrel hurt ability to bust clays?

I own a Mossberg 930 JM Pro. I got it second hand at a good price and lived with the fact it has a 22" barrel. I saw Mossberg sells 28" barrels for my gun and so I picked one up. What I didn't know before I ordered it is that it has some holes drilled into the top near the muzzle for porting. I know the porting will lesson my recoil but will it hurt my ability to bust clays? I mostly only shoot Trap.

My ported Benelli breaks clays just fine.

Its an advantage, nit a drawback. It wont affect pattern, only perceived recoil.

It will be a little louder than a non-ported barrel though

Nope. A tad louder perhaps, but, when shooting trap, everyone has hearing protection on anyway. Enjoy your 930.

The only effect it's going to have on a trap field, is the cranky old geezers that shoot trap will ***** about the noise

Is the shot and wad exiting out the end of the barrel and not through the ports?

If so, I think you'll be ok.

I did the same thing with my 24" JM pro but had a problem with fitting on the ported barrel, #93021. I would be interested to know if you had any fitting problems.

The barrel extension on mine was too thick and caused bolt carrier to not close all the way. I ended up returning it but I want to purchase another 28" barrel. I may call Mossberg and see if they offer a non-ported options since everyone seems to unanimously say that there is no actual benefit to the porting.

Good luck, and keep us posted please.

Porting "may" help keep the muzzle jump down a small bit.

Shotguns don't really benefit from recoil reduction via porting.

They are louder, but not much.

No negative effect on breaking clays.
