I'm glad the OP asked this question. I get to bring my 8 shot 870 I bought from Big 5 home in 6 days. I went to Remington's website to look at something and couldn't find my model. I also had someone at another shop tell me that the 20" 8 shot didn't exist ( he couldn't find it on the website ). After reading this thread I'm sure I got the one I wanted because it has the extended forearm grip that partially covers the receiver when open. That, and the barrel was almost 2" longer than the other 870s next to it when I bought it.

To the OP. It's a bummer that Big 5 got ya. I myself would probably waste the $12 in gas to drive back and get it right. Not because of capacity or the $10 difference, but because I'm a pain in the butt like that.

BTW I "need" 8 shots because I want 8 shots and that's all the reason I need.
"As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun, therefore, be the constant companion to your walks." -- Thomas Jefferson

imo, i think thats a myth. how can a spring go bad when there is no stress on the spring? the stress is under its max and it shouldnt ever collapse unless healy rusted or pulled beyond is shape. my ar mag i store with ten rounds, max and had it for over 17 years doesnt show signs of spring collapes.
