The shockwave is legal as it is just a stock

Look at the flowchart to figure out if The shotgun configuration you have is legal? Some have adaptors to use shotgun stocks on rifles.
Some try to drill these for semi auto shotguns.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

The mossberg 500 is sold with a pistol grip only option. That is much shorter than a shockwave.

Flowchart item 6 might be what you have a question about

I fully admit that I know nothing about the requirements for one but the Mossberg Shockwave falls under AOW rules, not shotgun or SBS's. You'll need to learn more about the legality of AOW's in Ca. I do know that other people have AOW's in Ca.

So as I understand it, AOW is the grey area for a gun that does not fit a normal bucket.... not a handgun, not a shotgun, not an NFA short barrel shotgun

So one could use a shockwave on an NFA item- Either an AOW or a shortbarrel shotgun (aka sawed off shotgun)

But the shockwave is just a variation of a shotgun stock... same with the hammer head and other varieties....

I think there's some confusion about the Shockwave. The Mossberg 590 "Shockwave" is a firearm by federal law. However, it is an SBS by CA law. In other words. It's legal in 45 states, but not here.

The birdshead grip the Shockwave uses is called the Raptor and is made by Shockwave Technologies. That grip is legal on an 18" barreled shotgun in CA.

Mossberg 590 Shockwave - illegal in CA.

Sorry to revive this thread, but was wondering anyone here placed a raptor birdhead grip on a 18.5" barrel pump shotgun like Mossberg 500/590? Pictures?
