Mossberg 930 Lifter problems, please help

First of all Admins, if I am in the wrong forum please move to appropriate forum.

I have a 930 JM pro with a 24" Barrel and I wanted a 28" barrel to get a little more range out of it for Trap.

I bought model 93021 28" Barrel and it's an awesome barrel however since I've assembled it I noticed the lifter is hitting the bolt release and it's much harder to load than before.

Anyone had this problem in the past? Is it normal or should I be concerned? Lastly is there a way to fix it?

New lifter or shave the release bar? Please see pictures to help show the contact. It appears the bolt release is now sitting under the lifter.

As you can see it will go down if I push the lifter to the right and press down hard enough. I can't imagine this is good for the lifter or FCM long term.

I can't imagine how changing the barrel would have any effect on the lifter and bolt release.
Did you take the trigger assembly out? Something must be misaligned.
Take it apart and reassemble again.

      I don't own a 930, but I have stayed at a Motel 6.
First thing to do is put the original barrel back on and see if it works OK.

If the problem goes away, then the new barrel is somehow different than the original.
If not, then double check your work as mentioned above.

If it is the new barrel, I would carefully compare the measurements of the barrel extension between the original and new barrels.
This will let you figure out where the new barrel is causing the binding.
It's possible the JM model has had a little hand fitting done, that you will have to duplicate.

The bolt release is held by the pin (14) on the side of the frame. It’s entirely possible that the spring (95) was displaced during the barrel change. Undo the pin and reassemble the unit.

As I look at my own JM, I think your bolt may not be going fully into battery.
It only takes the bolt moving back about 1/8" and the bolt release pops out of its recess on the inside of the reciever.

That actually may just be it, looking at the bolt it isn't perfectly flush. Perhaps the barrel is not the best fit.... I'll have to disassemble and reassemble and see if it's causing a hang up somewhere.

So I disassembled it and inspected. It appears that everything is fine but the barrel extension is a tad bit larger on the new barrel, enough to cause a small Gap in the bolt battery.

I'll be returning it and just living with my 24" I guess. Oh well it's a shame. It was a nice barrel and I love the extra length. I may have to call Mossberg and see if there is a specific barrel that will mate with the jm pro in 28" .... It'll probably cost more though.

I would give Mossberg customer service a call.

                        Update:

Called Mossberg. They said the barrels are interchangeable and should have no problems. So it means that I have a faulty barrel or they are not truly interchangeable and some fitting will be needed.

Either way I'm returning it. Walmart.com is good on returns I hope so I guess it was worth a try.

I think I'll just go with a full choke on long range shots and keep the modified in it for now.

Well I'm glad my Motel 6 guess proved to be usable info.

As a rule of thumb, anytime you replace a part of anything and now it does not work, double check the new part.
There's almost nothing that will drive you nuts more than a defective new part.

KC Stott is a CG poster / smith down there in San Diego, I bet he could fit that extension in no time.
