Trap lessons

I feel like I need to get lessons in trap shooting to up my game.

Any one know of any Trap clinics around LA or Orange county? or know any classes available to take?

Start with a very useful shotgun clinic at Triple B Clays in So. El Monte. The absolute best value in shotgunning instruction, that is applicable to all of the clay games, including trap.

What's your average like and do you shoot at handicap distances too?

Here is what I think.

With such a high average, you're looking to advance from being very good/excellent to being perfect and able run 25 straight consistently. The average coach who is used to teaching the occasional weekend trap shooter won't cut it for you as you're already very good. You'll want to consider looking into trap clinics from known good coaches like Nora Ross.

This means you'll have to travel to attend those clinics however. Her home page is here: http://www.noramartinross.com/home.html She doesn't have her 2018 clinic dates up yet but you might be able to email and ask.

What gun are you shooting currently BTW? Might be something to look into too.

Fundamentals---beginner

The fundamentals are the same for beginner or pro....what changes is how they are implemented.

My suggestion is to practice more and shoot less. On your next range trip pick a fundamental such as Mount and practice the same gun mount, where your hands are griping the stock, head placement, etc.

Mechanics is perfecting the fundamentals

Shoot to have fun.....practice to get better.

If you are averaging 22.5 broken clays per game you probably know the reason why when you miss those last few targets (lifting your head, leading the target too much, shooting behind the target, shooting over the target, shooting under the target).

He is actually correct and lifting the head is a major issue for most.

At that level, go to some trap competitions. If it's anything like skeet some of the competing pro's give lessons.

22-23 ain't bad, but nothing special either. But it means any bad habits are pretty well ingrained and you're best with a pro to help identify them.

If missing straightaways, lifting your head is very suspect.

And ya, it's a pretty mental game to start stringing 25's together.

If your paying a shooting instructor (or any instructor ) to tell what you're doing wrong, give that money to one that will teach you how to correct it.

Same thing in sporting clays. Saying you're behind a target doesn't do much help.
