    Slugs For 870

I want to shoot slugs in my son's 870. Should I be concerned about the modified choke barrel? Would an 18.5 inch smooth "cylinder" barrel be better?

Cylinder and improved cylinder are recommended.

Is it a fixed modified choke?

I have a 870 18.5" mod rifle sighted barrel I got from and recommended by AIPPI. It is accurate as heck at 100 yds.

It is perfectly safe to shoot rifled slugs with a modified choke, but your accuracy may not be as good as with a cylinder or improved cylinder.

Just don't shoot sabot slugs, which are designs for rifled-barrel shotguns.

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I question this as my phone discussion with JD, AIPPI said the opposite and he quoted a qualified slug shooter? I'm curious now if I got the right info. I do know my MOD rifle sighted barrel is highly accurate with slugs.

If you're using screw-in chokes, I'd stick with IC or C (which ever groups best).

The Modified choke is fine, I've done this plenty of times myself.
