I'm so mad, I could punch a baby...

So last week I picked up a smoking deal ($400) on and old UNFIRED 1978 Remington Wingmaster in 20 gauge. It's one of the last Wingmaster models build on and the old 12 gauge receiver/frame before they came out with the lighter frame for their 20 and 28 gauge models. That being said, is still feels light as hell, great fit, swings faster than any other shotgun I own, and it's beautiful.

I took it out and fired a round of trap and a few sporting clays, and the gun is just tits! Only minor problem was the action felt a bit sticky, so I decided to take it apart and give it a once over cleaning/lube job... and just busted one of the internal pieces attached to the reliever... Not sure the exact name of the piece, but I'll post up some pictures in and effort to get help from the CGN after I've pouted for a bit longer and thrown back a couple of beers...

p.s. -I'd never actually punch a child. I just feel like Ralphy after that first shot with his Red Rider in the backyard....

I understand the frustration but your thread title doesn't do much to market yourself in the manner you intended.

It's likely one of the shell latches. They are usually staked in, but can come loose, pop out and cause issues. They can be easily put back in if you know what you're doing.

Here's a you tube showing what parts I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP3k5RwzN7U

Is this the part(s) you're talking about?

Maybe you could change your title to I'm so mad I could punch a baby Browning...

        so it's more firearms related.

Sure you might break the baby Browning, like you broke your shotgun but it'll be easily fixed,

        unlike your hand.

it is only a figure of speech, I am sure he won't actually hit my baby

See if you can do a parts search on the web for your shotgun.

Give you $200 for your broken gun.

It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.

            The title is....."United States Marine".

It's the left side shell latch. Just got off the phone with Remington customer service. It's replaceable with a 28 gauge right side shell latch. I'm wondering how the hell I broke it in the first place...

Does it look like #55? $20, easy fix.

Yes, but it's special because of it being a 20 gauge built on the older/heavier 12 gauge frame. I actually found the exact one online at Jack First Gun Parts. Steep at $48 delivered... But hey, I love this gun.

It is unlikely you broke it as the shell latches are the hardest steel in the gun being spring steel. They are staked in only for convenience so they don't fall out when you pull the trigger plate out for cleaning. You don't need them staked as the front trigger plate pin holds them in place. Put it back in and use your gun till you have time to take it to a gun smith to properly stake it. It will operate just fine.
