    Trap gun

So I am thinking of getting into this sport of trap shooting, however the only shotguns I own at the moment are a Benelli M4 and Saiga 410. What would be a good intro gun to get? I would rather stick with 12 gauge.
I once pondered over the debate of 9mm vs. .40, then I was introduced to .38 super and 10mm and forgot all about it.

I bought a Browning BPS Trap model a few years back I'm going to shoot it for the first time Wednesday, mines a 12 ga with a 30 inch barrel, there was a lightly used one for sale in the long gun for sale forum with a great price wish it had been there before I bought.

Get an an older 870 or a Model 12. Lots of trap models out there and they will both outshoot you and outlive you. Next choice would be an 1100 Trap. BPS is a decent choice, but not as available. If you want to stick to singles, look for a BT-99 or BT-100.

I shoot trap all the time with a Remington 870. It works just fine and I see no reason to buy anything else. I sure cannot afford a dedicated trap gun at $3,000.

A standard field auto, pump or O/U is plenty capable of straights in trap.

All target games mimick field presentations. Sure, there's specialty guns for specialists in individual games. In competent hands, the differences in score is minimal.

As for target guns, "sporting" configurations are more versatile.

What's your budget? We're in a good place today as the market has a wide variety of products to choose from.

Since you already have 2 automatics, it might make more sense to get a O/U shotgun just to have something different. Also, if you start getting heavy into trap shooting, you'll be burning through a lot of shells and might want to consider reloading them. It is a lot easier to collect your own hulls with a O/U.

Assuming budget and fit is no issue, a Beretta Silver Pigeon I would be a good starting point. I've seen quite a number of these around and it can be further upgraded with a Precision Fit Stock so you can make adjustments to better fit the shotgun to yourself. I've seen quite a number of these on the trap field.

My wife and I shoot automatics, I use a Benelli Supersport and she use a M2, we have been shooting those for about 4 years. I will be buying a O/U myself though, but an automatic will serve you well for many years with no issues.

If budget allowed , buy a parazzi, it is over $10k. But the more expensive parts are ammo and range fees, which will be around $10-$15 per round, 25 targets

                You alway sell the gun

Well, I use 12s myself. I like classic shotguns... just old and pretty. But I would use a smaller gauge if you aren't simply using trap to work on your hunting skills, as I do. And yes, Parazzi would be my choice with no budget.

Sorry, and I agree with the others, any shotgun you shoot well is a good choice for trap. I use old side by sides and they work just fine. I would prefer something that breaks open to sped up game time, though

At the moment I would have to be a little cheap(due to most of my loose funds going into ammo and a mini 14 until end of year). The BT-99 was really sexy, but at the price of the one I liked I could get a fairly pimpin O/U. What is the opinion of the Mossberg with the interchangeable barrels?

Beretta 686 sporting is about $2k

BT99 is in the $1200 range. You won't find a new comparable O/U for that. Perhaps a nice lightly used field Citori.

If you like autos, look at Beretta AL391 Trap guns. Lots of very nice used ones for sale that won't break the bank.

Thanks to all! Some mighty fine suggestions, however looking to start cheap due to most funds going int ammo until end of year(at which point I will re-asses my interest and indulge in something nicer! I do like top shelf tequila)!
