    1912 vs 1897

I have a black diamond trap gun.I just paid $50 for a 1912 missing the loading gate and bolt. It's also missing the barrel adjustment lock and lock screw. The barrel has been trimed to 26 inches. I know they came in 26 inchs. This is not a good cut. I bought this to trim down the barrel and Rob the wood off of but, it will not twist in place. I have the screw and lock and lift gate on its way from numrich.
Is the 1912 barrel compatible with the 1897?
Would I be better off completing the 1912 and running it?
I love these guns for home defense guns. I would love to have one gun with 2 front ends to use as a hand bird gun
I like the 1912 more than 1897. I am seeing the 1897 less and less. That is the only reason I am thinking of keeping it.
I have an 870 it's fine. I have done upgrades to it. I don't love it as much as the winchesters
The 1897 seems to be a bit rare no one wanted to trade it for a modle 12 so it will get more modifications.
    I paid 125 for the 1897. It's not a loss.

97s have seen a big resurgence in popularity sine Cowboy Shooting became "A Thing". It has a hammer and qualifies as Cowboy.

My preference is the Md 1912/12

Slick as snot on a brass door knob.

What do you mean it won't twist into place?
The barrel has a numbered sleeve on it that gets adjusted to remove slop if any. It has a wedge and a lockscrew.

The 1912 is missing the adjuster lock and screw . The 1897 went away! I had numrich send the adjuster lock screw and the screw to hold the trigger guard. Trench gun sling attachment. Next will be lift gate and check for other small parts. Then I'll get the bolt! It will be a great gun again. A missed friend for home defense.
