Winchester 1200

Hi guys,

Shotgun newbie here. Thinking about getting a first pump action shotgun (12ga). I was thinking about a used Moss 500 or Rem 870 for they both have lots aftermarket equipment options and price are very affordable.

But I was at my local gun shop and saw a used but in good shape Win 1200. After a handling a bit. I really like the feeding action (smooth, and the feeding lip doesn't pinch my thumb).

So what say you. Is there anything I should consider?

Price seems pretty good $180 out the door.

Seems like a good price, if I were in the market for a pump I'd probably buy it.
But then, the decision is in the details.
Is it configured how you want it?
Do you want a spare barrel, tacticool accessories?
If it fits your wants/needs go for it.

I'd say go for it.
I mean they probably paid less than $100, so they're making a nice profit but when you consider the stores rent, overhead, salaries ...etc,etc...you're doing fine and they might be making more than they would off a brand new gun.

But that's really all irrelevant,
It's a good shotgun with a solid track record.

I had heard once that the1200 or 1300 (which is just a slightly improved model 1200) was the one shotgun that could fire those mini 12 gauge shotgun shells that a Aquila, the Mexican ammo company, sells.
( that allows you to put more rounds in a standard tube, which is nice on a shotgun like yours that you won't easily be finding accessories for.... like extended magazine tubes, and some pistol grip or folding stocks... side saddle shell holders..etc.

Mossburg 500 and Remington 870 pretty much have all the accessory market when it comes to pump shotguns but in my opinion yhe third in line in the shotgun accessory market would be...

the Winchester 1300.


I just remembered I think someone here saying that those mini shells did not work in his particular Winchester pump shotgun but I forget which model he said he had.
