    High School Trap Shooting Team

    Hi All,
I'm looking for information/advice on initiating a high school trap team/club. I'm familiar with the SSSF/DU information. Any relevant comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Good luck. I think it sounds like an awesome idea, but not so sure you'll get the response you expect when you bring this up to the school...

I sort of agree that most schools would not welcome the idea. But you never know. There is a middle/high school by my home that does Civil War reenacting every year. I was amazed the first time I saw it. A couple dozen 11-15 year olds marching with muskets. Some even got to fire shots.

So you never know. I would ask and then see what happens.

I shot in high school it was a great interaction with fellow classmates off the school grounds. We had all been hunting but it allowed us to get permission to go at the ducks and pheasants without adult supervision. I recommend it and would be willing to fight the good fight. You will not see this happen in any school in SoCal...

You should contact Woodcreek High School in Roseville ( I noticed you are in Shingle Springs). They have in the recent past had a very active/successful program. Someone there should be able to help you out with the logistics.

I'd check in with Sacramento Shooting Center to get leads. I've seen large high school trap matches there.

Also Comanche Hills Hunting Preserve would have information.

This league has information on starting a high school team.

I recently heard from our county school superintendent that our local high school district plans to get a team going this fall.

Live right around the corner from you. Have shot at Coon Creek a few times; they are one of the main practice ranges for High School trap teams in the Sacramento area. They have lit trap ranges; the high schoolers shoot evenings sometimes... Surprisingly there are a number of high schools with Trap teams in the greater Sacramento area.

I would try checking out there.

These folks train some of the high schoolers; might try them too.

What school are you helping out? Have you contacted El Dorado Rod and Gun?

Thank you and yes, EDRGC definitely part of the conversation. I enjoy the exchanges on Calguns. Always informative.

I have taken my nephew for a couple evening lessons at Coon Creek; Both times there were a bunch of high schoolers practicing under the lights.

Pretty cool seeing all the teens out there shooting.

I'm going to get my boys out there. They're not high school age yet, and we've only used the hand clay thrower so far. Have yet to take them to EDRGC. Soon, they're loving trap shooting

I usually shoot at Sac Valley. EDRGC is a great range, and has local Boy Scouts and 4H. But, their club schedule is challenging...

Always like to hear kids getting involved. I think Sac Valley is going to have some kids trap clinics soon.

Check out the Auburn Trap Club. Local HS teams from Roseville to Colfax practice there, typically on Thursday afternoon/evening. Nice range and good people. Talk to Chris, he can provide you with the info you need, and/or put you in touch with the local coaches.

I know there's a high school which shoots/practices at Coon Creek in Lincoln. I'd bird dog that.
