Remington 870 vs 11-87 barrels, interchangeable?

    Hey Calgunners!

I recently inherited a Remington 11-87 28" hunting shotgun and would like to make a bit more appropriate for home defense.

A quick internet search shows the 18" cylinder barrel for the Remy 11-87 is discontinued in all places I could find where it was stocked which is a shame.

I've read in a few places that the Remy 870 18" cylinder barrel will fit the 11-87 and then a few other places say that the 870 barrels won't fit the 11-87

So... what is the definitive answer?

    Thanks guys!

870 is a pump action; barrel does not have gas ports. The 11-87 is a gas action semi-auto.

Even if the 870 barrel were to fit on to an 11-87, the action would not cycle cause it needs gas to do so.

I will take that as a "No" then, thank you!

The 11-87 and 870 barrels are not interchangeable. Look for a 11-87 barrel on ebay or gun broker, worse case scenario you buy a longer barrel and cut it down to a "defense barrel" length with the result being a cylinder bore barrel. At any range you would be defending yourself with a shotgun a cylinder bore should be plenty effective.

A seller on Gun Broker has dozens of the 11-87 18.5" Bead sight or 11-87 18.5" Rifle sight Barrels for sale all the time. He is a great guy, a man among men, a tower of power, more handsome then Robert Redford and a legend in his own mind . He also has over 3,550 feedbacks on Gun Broker and every one of them an A+ and has never gotten less so buy with confidence.

And no, those barrels are not discontinued by Remington so maybe those sellers just don't carry them any longer but the guy on Gun Broker has plenty of them.

If you properly drill the gas ports a 870 barrel will work on a Remington Model 58 not an 1187.
