    BPS vs. 870 Wingmaster?

Do you folks see any winner here? I would like to leave a 20 gauge to my grandson. What say you?
    Thanks...

Both are nice! If he's left handed, BPS for sure.

BPS is a much smoother, well built gun. It's a gift from Grandpa, go extra, not the common 870.

Agreed, DO NOT purchase the common 870. Get a Wingmaster.

Honestly, both guns are great. Like XVI ga Rob said, go with the BPS if he is left handed.

Take him to the gun shop or range and have him give both a try before buying.

          Cheers.

My son's first repeater was a Browning BPS 20 ga., about the only drawback is it's a little tougher to visually inspect the chamber to see if it's loaded or unloaded compared to the 870, at least it was for Dad...

The BPS are tanks...the 20ga Hunter is 13oz heavier than the 870 WM. That's significant (and can be either good or bad based on your grandson and his future use of this thing).

BPS over the wingmaster simply because everyone gets an 870 (albeit not a wingmaster) at some point, but not everyone gets a BPS.

BPS wins if you or he plans on reloading, it's easier to find empties that get shucked at your feet.

If you're looking at spending Wingmaster money on a pump shotgun, how about a new Ithaca 37?

I'd go for the wingmaster over the BPS because when a part is needed or wanted, there WILL be parts around even at the local level. I don't think you could find a BPS part out there without going online. People just don't stock the parts.

Depending on the shape of your grandson's face, one may fit him better than the other.

The BPS would always hit my cheekbone quite hard. After trying one on a couple of occasions, I decided I did not want one.
I did not have the issue with the Wingmaster and consequently, I have owned one for decades. When Remington came out with the supercell recoil pad, I added it and highly recommend it.

Additionally, the Wingmaster is faster to load in the field, because you can just drop a shell in the open receiver.

Depends. If one has screw in chokes, as opposed to fixed chokes, I'd go with the screw in chokes. Both will do the job.

Without a doubt in my mind, I would go with the BPS. The fit and finish is superior to the Wingmaster. I haven't looked at a new Wingmaster, but the older ones had the ugly looking pressed-in checkering.

Browning BPS. Browning is not suffering the QC issues plaguing Remington.
The Upland Special in 20 gauge is a great shotgun.

A Browning should stay in the family a very long time. I like my Upland Special in 20 a ton, and got one for oldest grandson's birthday last year. 870's are also great guns, particularly the Wingmaster, but in my judgement the Browning is smoother and definitely has a better finish. At this point, I also have 3 870's, all ex-police guns...one Police Magnum, and two Wingmasters and really enjoy them, but that wasn't the question in the OP.
