JC Higgins Model 20 value?

Friend of a friends husband died, leaving a few guns behind.
As the so-called "gun guy", I have been asked to help sell some of them.

I heard in another thread you guys were getting bored, so I hope this helps a bit.

I am not a shotgun guy (yet) so please forgive any lack of clarity.

JC Higgins/Sears Roebuck Model 20, 583.56, 2 3/4 shells.
26 inch barrel with POWer Pac medium spread choke, no others found.
Also has the JC Higgins cleaning kit if that helps.

Condition is OK except small rust dots pretty much throughout the bluing, but looks like most could be easily wiped off.
(Excuse the dust in some pics, not my house.)
Action seems to function fine.
Also note the customized "Vince" plate (we do not know who Vince is).

I know these are low-end SGs.

Don't know much about value, buts its always fun looking up info on the old guns when some one inquires. Googled the model 20 and this came up.

"Who made the JC Higgins Model 20?
Like many other Sears products, the Sears firearms were originally made by major firearm manufacturers. The Model 20 was produced by High Standard Arms, as was the Model 88 revolver. The J.C. Higgins brand for Sears sporting goods was replaced with the Ted Williams brand.

According to that video linked above that model of shotgun can do "pump shotgun slamfires" ( not to be confused with other accidental slam fires ).

That's when you purposely hold the trigger back and rack the action again and again firing repeatedly with each complete cycle.

More modern shotguns have a interrupter/ safety device that makes that impossible.
( And it's possible yours is a different version that has that installed.)

To some people that lack of a safety feature/added fun is worth a few extra dollars because they like to waste ammo going pump-full-auto (or as much as you can with a pump shotgun).

it would not make me buy a shotgun but it would be something cool (and slightly dangerous if you're not using gun safety rules) that you get when you buy some models of older shotguns


And that ventilated choke is something I've not seen before and might add a few dollars to someone.

Model 20's were made up to 1962. The Model 200 was the High Standard equivalent. I'd guess $250-300 if it has a removable barrel like modern pump guns...about $50-75 less if the barrel is not removable...i.e., threaded into the receiver.

The slam fire happens, as it does on many older shotguns, because there's no disconnector. Fun to mag dump fast the first couple of times...pointless after that.

$200'ish seems fair depending on the corrosion. A bit of a premium if you can find the other chokes. I happened onto a 12g set in some reloading supplies. Sold them on shotgun world for like $10 ea. Few left around and few needing them.
