A friend of mine is looking for a replacement barrel for his H&R Model 401 shotgun (2 3/4"). It is a family gun past down to him and apparently a family elder decided to "shorten" the barrel some years ago. He is looking at returning it to stock, any ideas on where to look or someone to contact? Am currently searching the internet.....

What I would do is find out what if any other shotguns it cross referenced with and then look for the entire shotgun and any of the models it is compatible with. These weren't and are still not high dollar firearms and the luck of finding an entire gun is probably greater than seeking just a barrel without having a much greater cost.
Of course you'll have left over parts "which isn't bad when you think about it"...but it seems the goal is restoring a hand me down.
I snagged a bolt from a 22 for a buddy awhile back ..... we found the bolt for sale somewhere around 75 with shipping , ended up grabbing an entire rifle almost locally for 80 and the end result was my buddy got the bolt he needed plus he then had a spare mag.
And of course always check e-gun parts just in case if you have not alreadyIf you start thinking like a Free Man
You'll begin to feel like a Free Man
And pretty soon you'll begin acting like a Free Man
