870 tactical 1 shot mag extension

I've got a slight problem. I have a 6+1 Remington 870 tactical 12 gauge. I bought a +1 mag extension from Wilson Combat, hoping to have 7+1 and for the magazine tube to sit flush with the barrel. After I got it installed, the +1 was a worthless investment. It still won't accept the +1 shell. Has anyone ever ran into this problem? Everything was put back together correctly. The dimples were also grounded down with a dremel. The follower slides in and out of the magazine tube smoothly. Ideas?

Okay so in order for me to fit 7+1 I can't use the green Wilson Combat follower. It's too long. If I use the OEM orange Remington follower it fits. It's a tight fit, but it does 7+1. Which sucks because I wanted to use WC's follower.

I've not used or installed one of these Wilson 1-shot extensions. Things to note &/or to try:

-the extension was designed to extend the 4-shot mag tube to 5-rounds. I don't know if the "tactical" length 6-round tube will hold the extra round or not with this extension, but I hope so. This is likely why the entire mag tube with this 1-round extension is going to be a bit longer than the barrel, however.

-not all 2.75" 12 gauge ammo has the same length. For example, as I recall, Sellior & Bellot 2.75" ammo is longer than Winchester or Remington 2.75" ammo. You didn't say what ammo you were trying to load into that mag tube.

-consider using a standard follower to see if it works without binding as it won't have that long, stabilizing tail as the tail (as Wilson's supplied follower might have) may take up just that last fraction of length needed to load that 7th round in.

-the last thing I can think of is the mag spring length. If it's too long, it'll be stacking up in the mag tube, taking up any additional length needed to enable loading that 7th round.

I tried the oem spring with the WC follower but still won't fit. I'm going to have to take it to the range to see if it cycles properly with live rounds.

My suggestion was to try the set-up WITHOUT the Wilson follower, but using the shorter OEM Remington follower.

The new-vs.-OEM mag spring is a separate part to substitute in or out. In fact, try the OEM spring first as it has more of a chance at being shorter, but at the risk of not being long enough. Right now, we just want to see if you can get one more round in.

Also, you didn't mention what ammo you're using. Get some 12 gauge ammo which will measure approximately 2-5/16" long even though it says it'll be 2-3/4" 12 gauge ammo.

Yeah I'll have to go back and look at the shells when I get home. I was able to fit 7 with the Remington follower and the new spring with no room leftover. Usually with the stock setup there's actually about half a shell of space left after the 6th round is in the tube.
