    who's reloading shooting ammo?

was wondering who reloads their own shotgun ammo. i finally dove in reloading, starting with 9mm. i'm looking to eventually pick up dies for 223 and 40, then eventually picking up a shotgun press. i'm currently looking at a Mec size master, as i don't think i'd shoot enough to warrant going progressive. i was leaning towards a size master even though it is single stage due to it having a resizer vs the 650 although progressive, does not have a resizer. i find some posts where people seem to lean towards you can get away without resizing. i also seem to be having a hard time finding info on reloading using new pre primed cheddite hulls, and not finding too much info, but might just be due to a lack of strong google fu powers. would be interested in what combo of components people are using.

    thanks

If you use more than one shotgun, you need to resize.

If you load for only one shotgun, you probably ought to resize.

I had issues with my duck loads this year not being fully resized and not chambering in my pump gun after being fired in my SxS.

i only use one shotgun, but thats what i gathered, that its better to resize just to be on the safer size. mec 650 plus resizer would be close to the cost of a sizemaster. going the 650 route would require the extra step of resize each hull, but then probably could make up the time since its a progressive press. but still after taking that into consideration, it seems that i'd still be ok with a sizemaster.

Just buy a 900gn instead of wasting money and time "building up" to it. The GN is the best you can get and you kpcan find some cheap on the secondary market

i considered this. i would have to shoot weekly to even really consider this however. unless i find a really good deal. i just picked up a dillon 650 and pretty much took up my gun funds. looking to get dies and everything needed for 223 and with the rt1500 i'm looking at about $750. i'm not sure i can drop another $600 for the 9000. as i'm talking to the wife about this first world dilemma after writing this, she is confirming that i should just go with the 9000. she's telling me to wait it out and just get a 9000 instead of getting a sizemaster now.

I used a sizemaster for years before someone bequeathed me an 8567 Grabber (in 12) and then a pair of 9000's (12 and 20). Since I load lots of different gauges and lengths (2 3/4, 3, and 3.5") I still find a use for those sizemasters. If you load only 1 length (2 3/4") then the 9000 is fine. If you load hunting and target/plinking ammo, then the Sizemaster really shines. I used to shoot twice a week, usually 150-200 rds/week and the Sizemaster had no issue keeping up with that. Also you can look around and usually find used presses now and then for less money than new. I picked up 2 of my sizemasters in this manner. One of them was a 20 gauge press that I picked up a die kit for and converted to a 28. My original Sizemaster is from 1987 and still works well for me.

what you posted is close to what i'm thinking. i'm thinking of leaning towards the sizemaster as it would fill what i would need at a good price point.

Don't overlook the lowly Lee Load-All. They're $50 and they just danged work.

They're almost impossible to screw up, come with a resizer, and will get you into reloading shotshells quick, fast, and in a hurry.

I can turn out a box of shells in about 5 minutes with mine.

i initially gave this a thought. reviews seem to be good with minor quirks but i'm sure for the price it can't be beat. might give this a go to learn off of and if anything if i upgrade it won't be a big loss.

I paid less than $10 for my Load-All Jr. NIB. I bought another one on ebay a few years ago for about the same price.

                        Money well spent.

For that price, it would be worth setting up one particular load per machine and never fiddling with them again.

I will be selling a 12 ga MEC 8657 Grabber at the Sansei funshoot at Triple B Clays on April 30. Included will be some charge bars and bushings. There will also be 9000GN reloaders for 20 ga, 28 ga, and .410 for sale. All from Coach Don Ziegler's collection. Additional accessories (primer trays, etc) and loads of empty hulls in all gauges. All loaders are in good condition, freshly tuned, and ready to go. Good prices on all.

                          FYI.

Uh, the Load -All Jr. doesn't have any set up other than changing from 2 2/4" to 3" and changing from 6 to 8 fold crimps.
