I've been looking at the 500 flex system, I've been needing a new duck/upland bird gun and this one also is quick change to HD role with pistol grip and short barrel. They also make a collapsible Ar type stock option.

Features the Flex TLS Tool-Less Locking System allowing users to easily switch between multiple shooting applications in seconds and without tools. Combo includes a 28 in

For those with Beretta A300, I noticed that it's marketed as "self cleaning". Does that mean I never have to clean it?

I don't own an A300, but a friend has one and he swears he has never cleaned it.

I never sleep in the same house as a dirty gun, but the final choice is up to you.

Well OP, you have some homework to do. At least it's fun homework. But, just a couple things on here: Garandimal's post[#30] is all the HD type shotgun you would ever need. It's perfect really. And NapalmCheese' post[#31] is probably pretty true on all points. Great post.

it is self cleaning to a point.

you will still need to break it down once in a while to clean out the unburnt powder and flakes of brass/plastic/lead from the receiver area. the self-cleaning really pertains to the gas system.

the barrel will definitely need regular cleaning though.

I shoot the piss out of mine, and clean it once a season whether it needs it or not.

It's probably the simplest gun to disassemble there is.

Shotgun marketing ads are always throwing out stuff that are weird. Almost every manufacturer claims that their shotgun is the fastest cycling, softest shooting, most reliable and passes tests in Cordoba Argentina (no shotgun that I know of fails this often quoted test by the way.....). I see now they've even thrown in "self cleaning".

I think you should read that marketing term "self cleaning" as in "you have to clean it yourself because we sure as heck won't do it for you".

Nope, you just need to hand her a towel when it gets out of the shower.

They're talking bout the gas system. Like ysr said, it needs little cleaning, and is real easy to break down and clean. I usually run a bore snake trough it a couple times and call it good. When you break it down to clean, most of it is done with a soft dry cloth.

I'm not a cleaning freak, but I do wipe it down after every use so it doesn't rust.

I'll clean the bolt, barrel, receiver, and gas piston once a season.

Shotguns are all about fit. If the gun does not fit you, you will not shoot it well. Go and shoulder a few that your interested in. Better yet see if you can rent one, or if someone would let you shoot their gun.

A300 - boresnake and exterior wipe down after a hunt. Anti seize lube on the choke. At the end of the duck hunting season, clean the entire gun (gas system, trigger, bolt). Every 5-7 years, it gets a new magazine spring and recoil spring in the stock.
