    Mossy 20" threading

Local person wants $95 to thread the mossberg 20" barrel one choke tube included but wait time is a couple weeks. Anyone have any recommendations to send my barrel out?

Curious, what's your intended purpose of a choke tubed 20" barrel?

Why wouldn't you want a choke on a 20" barrel? For everything from turkey hunting to door breaching and tight patterns. Shotguns without chokes are severely handicapped.

Generally reserved for HD....so not really. Hence the question.

20" choked BBL is perfect for any kind of hunting especially upland.
            Not so for trap

He may be trying to say the barrel length is not exactly a first choice for trap.

A choke is also a good idea. Interchangeable or adjustable chokes make a shotgun more versatile than one with a fixed choke. That said, millions of birds, rabbits, clay targets, deer, etc. are taken every year with with barrels that don't use interchangeable or adjustable chokes.

The main issue with using that short of a barrel for clay shooting is that many ranges have rules about minimum barrel length required. In the bay area, only Metcalf allows short barrel shotguns, others require 24 or 26 inches barrel at minimum.

                    Why not?
For hunting you need faster swing when game pops up from under your feet and such, in trap you need longer barrel for smoother swing and more precise pointing.
I do not shoot trap or such BS, but i hunted with everything from 18.5" to 28"
I can tell everything from 18.5 to 24" chocked with IC is perfect for rabbits and quails. Not bad for turkeys with full or extra full. Mod for pheasants.

I have no experience in duck hunting with anything shorter that 26" but i heard of some PPL who like 24" for the same reason- faster swinging.

You are wrong if you think 20" barrels are rarely used outside HD. It's a perfect length for turkey or shooting slugs at pig or deer. I will say all the different barrel choices are why I went with the 870 over the mossy. When I needed a 20" threaded barrel I just ordered one.

Nobody with a 20" barrel will sit next to me in a duck blind.

Sure, 6 inches from your ear makes SUCH GREAT OF A DIFFERENCE!!! comon guys, use your heads not only as a hat hangers.
If it did, then 5 feet away you should hardly hear the gun blast and 20 feet away not hear it at all, right?

Think about it, you never tried it and make statements.

But anyway, we hijacked the thread with BS which does not answer OPs question. Sorry, no more comments from me. The ones who want to discuss BBL length for different hunting application should first make a little research and then open their own thread.

OP, I posted the link where you can tap your BBL for $40.
or you can buy a new one for $80 with a chock included
