anything a little "more-traditional" with a standard buttstock?

Buy 2 870's. One a HD model and the other a 28" field model. Forget double duty. The cost of a Remington barrel is about half the cost of the gun.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

                    EDIT.

I'd go with the 870 express. you can find them for $250-300.

I've hunted with one for over 10 years and it has never failed me.

                        1st. Shotgun

I would go for the 870. I've had two, over a 30 year period. Wouldn't be without one. I would get an 870 Express with a 26 or 28 inch Remchoke Barrel
and get a second barrel. Either a 20 inch police cylinder or a 20 inch rifle sighted barrel. My personal combination is an Express with a 28 inch Remchoke and my second barrel is a really unique 18 inch cylinder bore with a vent rib.

870>500. the fit and finish of the 870 is better than a mossberg. And for me the remington contolrs, safety etc are easier to use than on the mossberg. you shake the mossberg and it rattles. but they will go bang everytime.

Another vote for an 870 with 18" and 28" VR barrel.

When you put that 18" barrel on there, resist the urge to tac it out. It'll serve fine for HD duty.

im looooong overdue to go to the range for some serious led dispersal.
i've got 3 garands, 3 m1 carbines and am waiting for CMP to ship my 2 m1 winchesters to me....lol

what is the remington 870 HD model? how much?
