    Flame from ejection port

I was shooting those 4-pack Federal shells they sell at Walmart last night and noticed that some of the shells throws out quite a big flame from the ejection port when I fired. Pretty distracting when shooting at night and especially when my face is so close to the said port.

Does anyone know why this happens? For some other shells, I might get a little amber but nothing like what these Federal shells do.

Don't know exactly what is causing it, but powders do need a curtain amount of chamber pressure to fully burn in the chamber. Flames from the chamber of an SA or shooting out of barrels most liklly means powder still burning after the primary burn.

Are there dark particles in the barrel ? Thats powder that did not fully burn.

That is why some shells are dirtier then others.....Just use different shells since its not a reloading issue, you should not have the same problem....if you do have the gun looked at before you shoot it again

What are you shooting them out of? Gas or inertia? Short or long barrel? What is the fps of the ammo. Some powder burns slower than others for longer barrels.every company has what they think is a good recipe for ammo depending on its intended purpose. Some guns like one over another.

My 930 SPX would do that with high velocity rounds. The GO system with the short barrel would eject before the powder was fully burnt.

        It's normal!
It happens all the time with auto-loading firearms (shotguns, pistols, rifles) when the bolt cycles!
You get flame out the front of a revolver cylinder/barrel gap too.
Ask any duck hunter about an early morning shoot using an auto-loader..................we start hunting 1/2 hour before sunrise..................it can be spectacular then! Three-four foot flame out the muzzle and six inch to a foot out the breech...........................

Inertial driven system, I'm using a Benelli Supersport 12 gauge with 28 inch barrel. The ammo is 1200fps #8 shot, 1 1/8oz.

I guess it is something odd about this ammo, most likely it being very dirty and not burning completely.
