    New 870 question

    Hiya Calguns!

Quick question from a shotty (and calguns) newbie. I'm picking up a Rem 870 26" shotgun tomorrow am. I've shot trap with over/unders for a few months but, when it came to buying one I HAD to go with a pump. It just sounds much cooler than the "click" that comes when you break an o/u barrel.

To the point, do I need to shoot a particular type of load through it when I first take it out or is it like my glock where any factory ammo will do for ~200 rds before I switch to reloads?

Part two...also in comparison with the glock...does it need to be cleaned and lubed out of the box or is it good to go?

Sorry...I know they're rookie questions, but if I can't ask 'em here, then where can i?

Any Ammo should be fine, I fired reloads first time shooting my 870. I always clean my weapons right out of the box just to be safe.
    Good luck

Personally, I don't have a problem with it......but wait for the "don't use the word shotty" reply.

        1. clean it when you get it.
        2. Buy a case of the cheapest birdshot you can get, and shoot it all. Thats a good break in for you and the weapon.

          Thanks!

Gracias for the advice. Think I'll run a couple of boxes through it before I move o to the reloads. Per cleaning, think I was just looking for an excuse to be lazy.

in RE: "shotty"...I'd actually never heard anybody say that before I logged onto these forums last week. Didn't know I was stepping on anybody's toes...

Take the barrel off and take a look down it. I heard a guy once found a piece of styrofoam packing in his barrel. Good thing he checked first.
