?'s on a Savage M720 88k serial

Sorry if this belongs in C&R or here but anyhow.

Have a pending trade on a Savage M720 semi auto shotgun. Serial is 88k and it has 4 stars on the barrel along with the P8 or "flaming bomb" however I see the barrel has been cut down to 18". Whomp whomp whomp.... how badly does this affect the collector value? A buddy suggested finding another barrel but that just kills it too. For anyone familiar with these any and all input is appreciated.

If it matters it is more about the cool factor at this time.

Are you sure it's been cut? Check for a choke marking.
The design prevented them from being used as a trench gun with heat shield/bayo, but short barreled versions were issued in riot config for security. The long barreled version were contracted by the Navy for aerial gunnery school.

The stamps indicate 4 stars which research on the Interweb shows a "no choke" I'm thinking it was a 26" cut to a 18" which kills it for me but still a very cool shotgun and I'm at a rough $500 trade value. Not sure if this or high or low with the barrel aspects.

I do recall (maybe) that the short barrel version was 20" ......is it a bead sight?
Again, maybe remember, should have rifle sights on that barrel

Riot barrels were 20", no choke, and had a small ramp and bead.

It definitely affects collector value...that said, if you collect old shotguns the cool factor may be all you need. The markings indicate the gun was originally sold to the government with an open cylinder barrel. 26" barrels were used to train bomber gunners, 20" barrels were used for security duty. The gun is just a variation on JMB's A-5. If you'd like to sell the shotgun, send me a PM.
