    Early 80's Remington 1100

Hi all, im very new to this forum so please be patient with me. Lol. I have an early 80's remington 1100 12 ga. that i bought new. I have two barrels. Both vent rib. One 30" and one 28". The 30" is a 3" mag. The 28" is a 2-3/4". This gun has very few rounds through it. Last shot in 1994.

Question, approx. how much is it worth. Im looking to sell and buy a home defense shotgun

Any help would much be appreciated

If it's in good condition, probably $500 to $600

I know I'm not answering your question, but here are my thoughts. Personally, I would consider selling one or both of your two barrels and replacing it with a 18"-20" barrel for your 1100 as a way of economically reconfiguring your shotgun for home defense. You can buy and sell shotgun barrels on ebay no problem. The 1100 is a very reliable semi automatic shotgun and makes a great home defense shotgun, arguably better than a pump for the inexperienced. Today, buying a gun in California adds a significant cost to any gun purchase with the taxes and state processing fees, known as DROS fees, which are about $50 plus the additional sales tax. Your 1100 if purchased in 1980s for the most part was hand fitted and by many are considered to be superior to there current products. Additionally, it was not subject to the current laws which allow the State Of California to keep a record of your gun purchases. That reason alone, along with the quality of the guns from that era would be why I would keep it over buying a new gun. You never know what the tyrants in Sacramento are going to come up with next regarding what they will outlaw. I will never sell my older guns. Now days your going to spend about $250-$300 minimum for an american made self defence oriented pump shotgun plus the above stated taxes and fees. I would keep what you got, I think your way ahead. Others may disagree!

Value depends to a large extent on whether the receiver is standard (2-3/4") or magnum (3"). Just because it has a 3" barrel does not mean that it's a 3" gun. Also depends on whether either or both of the barrels are RemChoke or fixed choke. If RemChoke, which tubes do you have? If you have a light contour barrel with the older style forend wood, that will reduce value.

It's a crap gun, worth about $50. I'll do you a solid and give you $100 to seed your fund for a home defense gun.

Actually - good advice given above.

            Want a home defense shotgun?
Take 1100, add a short 18" barrel and a mag extension!
            bingo.you got a HD shotgun!

Auto not as reliable as a pump?
Don't tell that to my 1187 skeet........................as it is just as reliable as my Wingmaster pump!

We would need detailed pictures to really determine value, has it been cleaned and lubed since 1994?
WTB: Marlin 989 M2 stock (uncracked), and 989 M2 rifles
              Thanks

You don't need an extension tube. If you can't handle the intrusion with 4+1 or 5+1, you have bigger issues.
