    Browning BT-99

I want to a get a BT-99. My question is are the new ones as good as the older ones? If the older ones are better how can you tell what year it was made and what year should you buy? Thanks guys.

I have never had a problem with all the BT-99's I shot. New or old. If you want a new(er) gun, look for the invector chokes (Screw in chokes). The older BT-99's had fixed chokes.

    Cheers.

Quality I believe is the same, but I prefer the engraved one aesthetically.

I wouldn't mind finding an engraved one with chokes (factory or aftermarket).

An alternative is the BPS Trap.

Aren't the newer ones equipped with Invector Plus chokes? My son has one that is at least 20 years old and it has the old Invectors (not Plus).

          Correct.
The oldest ones had fixed chokes; the "middle age" ones have invector chokes, and the newest ones have invector plus chokes. Good catch.

          Thank you.

i would maybe try to find a bt-100.

they came out with them not too long ago i think, but then stopped selling them. there are some minor differences between them and the bt-99, but from what i have heard, a lot of people prefer the bt-100. i would at least look into it and it should be cheaper than a new bt-99.

also, if you are patient and willing to have the gun shipped, why not go for a citori xt with o/u and single barrel? just want to make sure this is something you considered for the obvious reasons... being able to shoot doubles.

That's a pretty huge price difference. A Browning two barrel trap set adds the cost of a BT99 to a base XT.

Plus so of the older ones are designed to be high shooters. 6-9 inches high is not unheard of.

This is true but anyone who gets into trap will want a gun with two barrels anyway. i think there is a lot of value in shooting the same gun even compared to both gun stocks being fitted they will be a lot more different then a combo

In this link you can see the different BT-99 models over the years (http://bluebookofgunvalues.com/Gun_V...L_BT_99_BT_100).

I've shot quite a few over the years and they're great shotguns.

It is true that if you want to shoot doubles you'll need a 2 barrel gun. Not sure where you're located but finding a club that shoots doubles regularly around here isn't as easy as it once was.

On the single barrel guns i didn't find myself playing around with different chokes.

Look around, there are tons of them out there. There are great well established companies out there that will totally tighten/refinish or modify to your liking should you so choose.
