    Magpul sga mossberg 500

Anyone install this in their 500?
I'm interested in the feel and recoil.
My wife hates firing my 500 and I want to
Make it easier for her to fire.

The shotgun is a home defense gun.

    Thanks

I have the SGA installed on my 590 but have not fired with it yet. Plenty of ppl have asked similar questions in regards to finding something to appease the wife. Have you already tried using a limb saver buttpad or adding any weight to the rear of the gun to help with recoil? How about using lower recoiling self defense loads? These are just a few of the suggestions I've seen offered by others in the past. The feel of the SGA stock is great, I feel like it ergonomically has a better fit due to the steeper grip angle and the adjustable LOP. Magpul also sells a replaceable buttpad plate so you can install a limbsaver meant for a Rem870 to really make it nice and koosh as well.

PS. From another forum I frequent a guy suggested adding a bag of sand to the rear by putting it inside the stock behind the buttpad plate. finding the right balance of how much sand and being able to change the amount to suit your need sounded like a good idea. By adding more weight to the rear of the gun it'll help balance it a bit more and the added weight will help with the recoil. Others have suggested add on shell carriers on the stock as well to achieve the same goal and have some extra ammo on tap if when needed.

How much does she shoot it each month in HD situation that recoil makes a difference?
Also, what amount of recoil should stop you from shooting a gun in HD situation when your life is engendered? Will you notice the recoil at all?

I would understand this question if it was a hunting/clay shooting gun which gets to be used. HD gun is used 1 time in your life, 1 shot, than in CA you say goodbye to your gun owners privileges and you do not get to use it anymore and hope to get to prison for manslaughter.

better spend your money on something else or keep it for lawyers.

Because you should never practice with your HD firearm, right?

          ><

Why would the stock help with felt recoil....If you don't have the answer, then chances are it won't.

Here is a good read on the subject....look up the terms that your not familiar with such as "pitch" or "drop at heal".

The information/advice below is from my book, Stock Fitter's Bible. If you have questions, email me at rollin@stockfitting.com or call me at 920-464-0124 (Wisconsin). Warning: This thread is long. You may want to have a drink and a snack handy. Shooters come in a large number of sizes and...

Stance, mount, gun fit = The least amount of felt recoil with that particular gun and ammo

After the above has been established then felt recoil can lowered further by ammo selection, gun weight, recoil pad, type of action, etc.

A bad fitting gas auto with a kick-ez recoil pad and low recoil ammo will kick more then a stock good fitting pump shot with a good mount and stance.

            Practice what?
HD gun is the worst thing to practice with.
It should stay at home in 100% new condition and wait all its life for this 1 time shot. That is it.
Practice with guns which are built for for practicing. And listen to "Thefeeder".
