Any regulars at Moore-N-Moore here in So Cal?

I'd like an introduction to shooting clays here in the San Fernando Valley. I haven't purchased a field gun because I haven't tried shooting trap/skeet. (duh).

Here's the deal. I'd like to become a member here so I can try the shotguns they have available as rentals but would like an intro lesson into this type of shooting. If you're an experienced shooter/go there on a regular basis, shoot me a PM. Help a Calgunner out. I'll be more than happy to cover your ammunition, target fees and lunch.

I think YSR is the guy you want to talk too. He's big into clay games and seems to be quite willing to help. Send him a PM.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

        moore n moore

it's most def the nicer local range to go to for sporting clays. a buddy and me frequent there. usually sundays at 10 we meet there. it's slowed down quite a bit for me, but i still make it up there. i'll send you a pm next time i go and you send me one when you want to go. it's a good time up there. it's a medium course. terrain is pretty, especially the burnt parts with molten clay running down the hill. what field gun did you pick up? you don't need a lot to shoot there, targets are pretty close all the time.

I haven't picked up a shotgun for clays, I expect to be in the market for one after I try my hand at shooting. Looking into a Berreta Urika or Ext 2.

Hey I was thinking of going up this weekend if the weather is ok. If you pick a day and time maybe we could make it a full tutorial??

Everyone's welcome. I'm no expert, but I'm happy to share what I know.

M-N-M is located at the far end of the parking lot at The Angeles Ranges off of the 210 at Osborne.

Let's "shoot" for 10:00am on Saturday. I think that's the best chance we have, weather wise. But check here Saturday morning to make sure we're still on.

Before we meet, first conduct a test to check your eye dominance.

Take an 8x10 blank sheet of paper. Cut a hole in the center of it about the size of a dime. Hold it up at arms length and look at a distant target with both eyes open.

Now close your left eye. If you still see the target, you're right eye dominant. If you don't see the target, continue on.

Open both eyes. Next close your right eye. If you see the target, you're left eye dominant.

If you can't see the target with either eye closed, you have center dominance.

                    Next read this:

When you play baseball, do you look at the bat or the ball? With 1 eye or 2?

When you play golf, do you look at the club head or the ball? With 1 eye or 2?

When you play tennis, do you look at the racket or the ball? With 1 eye or 2?

When you merge onto the freeway, do you look at the hood of your car or where you want to go ? 1 eye or 2?

Are you starting to see a pattern here?

Look at your target and your brain will do the rest. Yes, I know, it’s not for everybody, but give it a try.

Now onto something else. After you hit the ball with the (bat, club, racket) do you stop dead in your tracks, or do you follow thru?

                    You follow thru.

Same thing in sporting clays, if you stop the gun, you probably shot behind the target.

                    See everyone on Saturday.

                      Sounds great Brad.
I am aware that I'm right-eye dominant. And follow-through is key, it always was when I did archery and bowling.

10:00am on Staurday is the day. Bring ear and eye protection, and cash for ammo and targets.

                            I'll bring a couple of 12ga's (semi auto and o/u) and a 20ga o/u.

Or bring your own ammo. All clay ranges allow #9, #8 or # 7 1/2 shot only. Walmart sells ammo for a pretty good price.

I drive a black 4 door Lexus. See you there.
