I just contacted three different MANAGERS from THREE different Firearms Dealers (Two from Turners and one from Ammo Bros). You can still buy and transfer a Benelli M4 Tactical shotgun. If you're curious contact your local Fire Arms Dealer.

I much rather shoot my Benelli M2 Tactical it's a lot easier to handle.

Why is that? Just curious. Is the M2 lighter?

That had me scratching my head too. Oh well, if he doesn't want it he doesn't want it
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Crazy, I wonder what is adding 2lbs in the M4? I can't imagine the gas system weighs that much. Maybe a heavier barrel or something?

I was curious so I looked around online for some answers about why the M4 weighs so much more than the M2. The stocks are the same weight, and the mechanical differences in the action don't account for much. The consensus seems to be that the M4 is simply "beefed up" more than the M2. More/thicker/heavier metal in more places. So, if that's not important to you because you're not abusive to your shotgun, then I can see the appeal of the lighter M2.

I'll admit that the half the appeal to me of the M4 is it's military background, but I also like that it's the only M-series Benelli with a gas system which (apparently when also combined with the added heft) results in a substantially reduced recoil. Reduced recoil = more fun when rapid firing

It's probably a combination of a lot of small things....i.e. M2 has no picatinny rail, sometimes has tiny rifle sights instead of ghost rings, shorter mag tube, the bracket that holds the mag tube and front sling mount looks a lot less substantial on the m2, the second metal ring at the end of the barrel of the m4 where the mag tube nut is at, charging handle is smaller on m2, and of course the gas system makes up for probably half a pound with the 2 steel pistons and the corresponding parts.
"Handling" is probably a pretty subjective thing.....lighter may make for quicker maneuvering or getting on target, but heavier and gas operated makes for quicker follow up shots from my observations when shooting both side by side

The gas system on the M4 also results in the forend being a bit larger and more squared off, so they feel a little different in the hands. That's less easily quantifiable and comes down more to personal preference.

922(r) applies to manufacturers, not owners. It is definitely NOT ILLEGAL to own a rifle that does not meet 922(r).

And your ability to transfer the weapon has zero to do with 922(r).

Just a note that ATF considers you the manufacturer when you SBR/SBS/AOW a firearm. So 922 applies when you slap on a stock or cut the barrel.
