    Remove finish from mossberg receiver?

Anyone remove the finish from their mossberg aluminum receiver? What did you use? To get into the ribs on the top? And do you recommend it? Thinking about doing it to mine and polishing the aluminum

What ever you use to polish the aluminum will be aggressive enough to remove the Hard Annodized finish...

And no, I would not go from hard annodized to polished aluminum unless it was a movie prop gun....

      Function first....

Lots of ways to skin the HA cat...... the heavy duty easy off with Lye seems to remove anodizing from AL

I am sure the airsoft community has tutorials how they strip and polish glock slides on youtube

I would be just as durable. I mean, polished aluminum wheels last pretty long.. I have experience in polishing aluminum.just don't know about getting the coating off

Hope onto YouTube and search for removing annodizing from Aluminum

There are videos showing how to use lye based cleaners to remove the annodizing....

Raw aluminum will oxidize... you can do things to keep this from happening-
Car rims are clear coated- painted- so cleaning and waxing is all that is needed....

Pin hole dimension might be a bit looser with the coating off and just raw aluminum.

If you do this, take some time to set up a light box and film the process....

Let others learn from your techniques and such....

I like the satin look so I would just bead blast it.

Since I was in the middle of refinishing the wood,I decided to just polish the bolt and put it together to decide if I wanted to polish the receiver or not. So no,I have not done that part yet

Car rims are not clear coated... I'm into a little bit older cars than you I think haha. Polished aluminum wheels are not clear coated

+1, I have a set of old school BBS RS's on my car that I stripped the clear coat off (the clear coat was already failing). Decided to polish and not clear them and they can go on for awhile without polishing while still looking nice.
