Saiga 12 as a Single Shot

I am cross posting this from the AW reg thread...

For those with a Saiga 12 who don't want to register, could you not take the gas plug AND the piston (puck) out and make it a single shot firearm?

Not sure of who would want a single shot Saiga, but if one is stuck on not registering or for those who just want to keep in their safe until they move to a free state....

I think the guy from 10 Percent Firearms did something similar to a FS2000 some years back turning the rifle to a single shot/rack the bolt repeater.

If you remove the gas piston and plug the gas block, then it will not longer be considered semi-auto and will operate as a straight pull bolt-action shotgun.

As a bolt-action shotgun it can legally have a pistol grip, forward pistol grip, folding/extending shoulder stock, and use detachable magazines.

Don't store or transport the shotgun with parts that can be used to make it back into a semi-auto.

Read the new regs. Guess this is the only option to not register the Saiga 12...

I can foresee converting to a bolt only repeater & removing the mag release.

The issue will be explaining to an uninformed LEO that the lack of a fixed mag release and gas parts does not qualify the shotgun as an AW even without possessing the semi auto gas parts.

It gets even trickier if one were traveling out of state to shoot and you possessed the parts to convert back to semi.
