    Moss 500 Racking?

I have googled this, but have yet to find anything.
I was in a shotgun class, most everyone else had 870's.
When I pull the trigger & have any pressure pulling back on the slide, the slide will not rack until you move it forward slightly. Then the gun can be racked. If you do not put any back pressure on the slide, it will rack normally when the trigger is pulled.
Everyone with 870's, when the trigger was pulled, the slide would begin to rack with pulling pressure on the slide.

My son has a Moss 510, with the same issue.

Is there a fix for this? Or just a Mossberg quirk?

I have two 500's. 12 and 20ga. When I pull the trigger, it racks normally. No extra movement involved. I just tried to duplicate what you mentioned; works fine. My 870 Wingmaster works equally as well, tho smoother. But, it is a 1975 870.

3 Mossberg 500'S here, none with the issue you describe.

Bought a new 500 in 20 gauge today. Seems to be fine.

That does not sound normal, none of mine do that

I was actually able to create the scenario you described last night while running some snapcaps through my 500. If I pull back on the slide before pulling the trigger, it will not go back until I push the slide forward slightly. Now mind you I've never actually had this happen to me in the field and have always been able to quickly rack for a follow-up shot on a bird or rabbit, but then again I only have the slide resting on my palm and don't pull back until after I've fired.

I just sent my Mossy in for warranty work for a different racking problem. The forearm gets stuck in the open position. They initially replaced the forearm with a cheapo economy pinned forearm, which works perfect. I put the "normal" factory forearm to install Magpul furniture, an ran into the same issue.

I sent the whole shotgun back for them to figure it out. I should have bought an 870.

This happens on both of my Mossberg 500 (20 & 12 gauge). But I don't worry about it since proper shotgun technique is to pull the slide forward when shooting.

Post back here if they fix it or what you go through. Thanks!
