Family heirloom, was my grandfathers. Don't know anything about it. Does anyone have any useful info? What is it worth? Maker? Is it rare?

Another Pic
Sorry for the bad pics, maybe this helps..
It looks like it says the letter JK on base in handwriting buy cant really tell.Attached Files -
Not being a wise guy, but is the shotgun in your possession?
If so, what is stamped on the barrels, receiver?
If the shotgun is not in your possession, maybe you could ask the person who has it, to look in those areas and tell you what is stamped there.
Good Luck.Comment

Very ornate piece. Can't be cheap.
Initials were likely the owner/who it was made for.
I'd try over on shotgunworld. Lots more "non-tactical" types there.
And you'll need better pics and they'll likely want to see water table pics, proof marks, etc.
Appears European. Perhaps even a guild gun.Palestine is a fake country

I think it's a Merkel"A free people ought to be armed" George Washington, 1790

We need better close up pics. Take a picture of the tang with the level to the right, Remove the barrels, what's written on the frame and bottom on the barrels. What is stamped on upper portion the barrels? There should be markings with the name of the builder, gauge, where it's made. Proof marks on the receiver and barrels, serial number.
Gauge?
Barrel length?
Is there an engraver name on the receiver?
Hard to determine if this is as valuable as some might think without the proper identification.Comment

I like try to take better pics when I have the chance, gun not with me. No markings, I will break down the gun and check the barrels. For sure its a 20 gauge side by side, feels fairly light for a shotgun, has a very cool vintage case as well, will take pic and post. My grandfather liked to Hunt if that helps.Comment

That's nice. Maybe your mistaken
and gramps left you a cherry Parker
or Holand & Holand 458Win mag.
That big hole just looks like a shot gun shell fits in it.

Definitely Germanic, but could have been built in a number of countries. "Sicher" in gold inlay under the safety translates to something like "secure" or "safe."
No markings? Highly unlikely, even for a guild gun. Proof marks will tell the story, even if there are no other markings. 20guage? Not likely for a continental gun of that apparent vintage. Probably a light 16. Measure the chambers or the bores.Comment
