Non-lead shot that would work in a muzzleloading shotgun?

Hello,
I have a muzzleloading shotgun I got for a gift. I would like to take it hunting and was wondering if there is any non-lead shot that would work in it? It is chrome lined so should steel work in it?

Depends on choke . Steel shot needs to be enclosed by shot cup to protect bore. You need a way to deliver shot cup with top cover down to powder/777 whatever you use.

Several to choose from, there is Bismuth, Ecotungusten (Niceshot) or copper plated shot.

If you go with the "Heavyshot" you must use their shot cups for what ever gauge your shooting.

^^^ Non hunter. He is talking about non lead I do not know of any non lead copper plated shot. Let me know if there is any please. And all non lead must be approved by dfw.

Bismuth & ITX. I shoot both using lead shot spec'd wads.

Hevi-Shot had a classic doubles which I think was a tungsten-polymer and Kent has their tungsten-polymer but I don't think loose shot from either is/was available.

I'm surpised it's chrome lined unless it's a re=pop.

There is a muzzle loader/black powder forum on ShotgunWorld. Biggest problem with plastic shotcups and black powder is bore fouling from the melted plastic. Some of the BP substitutes mitigate that problem. If it's a modern ML, as indicated by the chrome bores, you may be able to shoot steel if you are careful, depending on shot size and choke. I suspect the chrome is there to reduce BP corrosion, rather than to facilitate use of steel or other hard non-tox.
