Benelli M1 super 90 problems: Benelli experts only

note this is an older M1, it contains two washersne flat the other curved.

anyhow i took it to a gunsmith a while ago because the bolt was jammed forward, and the tail behind the bolt was hung up. Well it got fixed.

i took it out to the range. loaded up the tube and put a round in the chamber. the first round fired, but would not cycle. racked the handle and fired. but would not cycle. racked the handle again. pulled the trigger and would not fire.

i took it back to the gunsmith and well he said he couldnt find anything wrong with it and everything was intact.

so i took it out today. loaded a round and pulled the trigger and it fired but would not cycle. so i loaded another round into the chamber. Pulled the trigger, and nothing.

no idea what happened. took it home began to field strip. i removed the barrel inspected it. pulled the bolt to the rear and tried to put the barrel back in but the bolt is obstructing the barrel going all the way back.

so now im pretty irritated, i bought it used from a pawn shop and worked fine the first range trip. this was my 3 gun set up too.

      using 2 3/4 slugs
so that should not be a problem

      shotgun is lubed

      and im guessing extensively used

is the inertia spring in the bolt?

and when it doesnt fire after manually chambering a round did you check to see if the bolt was in full battery. The m1 bolt can sometimes rest on the cam pin if the spring is weak or the pin not properly lubed.

Exactly what I was thinking........ I don't recall any "washers" in my M1S90.

Need some more detailed info on exactly what is happening after that first shot.

If it's not cycling, is the inertia spring inside the bolt carrier?

the only washers i can think of are in the forearm which only serve to keep it snug.

That's what I was getting at.
Why does he mention these washers?

yar, im about 9 beers in

the metioning of the washers only ment that it was the older type of m1. apparently they changed the design. because if the washers were not put in corectly that it could damage the shotgun. i just put that in for reference really.

yes they were in place correctly

what happened after the intial first shot was nothing. it fired. it did not cycle. it didnot kick out the round.

the tail was inserted to the inetia system and to my inspection the firing pin is still intact.

pretty much im trying a new gunsmith that will asess what is going on and then ship it to factory.

Here are a couple of things.

Pull the stock off and remove the recoil spring make sure noting is rusted in there and moves freely.
Make sure the bolt moves freely in the carrier. It should only have the big spring in there nothing else

Check to make sure the firing pin isn't peened over, it's a wear part.

Put two rounds in the gun shoot it. FOLLOW ALL SAFETY PROCEDURES. Look in the receiver down the slit where the bolt handle moves is the hammer cocked? You can do this while keeping the muzzle down range and not doing anything unsafe.

When you cycle the gun by hand does it always cock the hammer?

Buy a new recoil spring get the lighter one from Wolf or get a stock Benelli spring for an M2.

                          Start with that.

You can post this on the Benelli forum or if you want more help post this on the Brian Enos forum.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Is the stock M2 spring lighter than the stock M1 spring?

To my knowledge it is. It's a recommended mod from one of the "boys". I've always put in the lighter Wolf spring and have had great success.

Axe if you want help PM me and we can meet at Oaktree or someplace where we can work on your gun and shoot it.
