    mossberg 500 troubles

    Hello,

    The story,

I have had a mossberg 500 big 5 special for about 5 years or so. I have always wanted wood furniture on it, but never changed it out due to it not coming with a slide action tube, I have however put another ALL IN ONE forend on it since then and it has worked fine. I recently bought a 6 5/8 slide action tube with extension nut and bought a wood forend and buttstock, the buttstock went on with little problems and modification.

    The problem,

With this new slide action tube it is not releasing a round when I rack the slide. Either the shell stopper or shell interrupter are not being triggered, that is my guess at least. Looking at the 'prongs' on the slide action tube vs the old 'all in one' forends they all appear to be a little different, but one of the ones that has worked looks very similar to the one that will not. I have tried bending the shell interrupter and stopper *at separate times* but that just has lead to more problems and I had to bend them back. I tried bending them just a little and though it seemed to release the shells it was very very loose. I ended up throwing back on the 'all in one' forend but would like to be able to switch it out, any suggestions on what may be the problem or a cure?

I would upload a photo but photobucket is currently down, so on a side note where is a good place to host images?

Shop shotgun parts (642) at Brownells, perfect for gunsmithing, repairs, and modifications. Explore stocks, barrels, chokes, and more for fixing or upgrading your shotgun.

I believe this is the tube I bought second hand..... it says for

    Make: Mossberg

    Model: 835

This may be my problem? I was told it was for a mossberg 500 but he did give it to me in original packaging and I looked up the UPC

Since a 6-3/4 and a 7-3/4 are cross compatible maybe your wood forend is made for a 7-3/4 and not letting the tube cyle all the way to the rear? Does it eject?

I tried the tube bare without the wood forend all together to test that very theory.

If you chamber a round thru the ejection port does the lifter pick it up and chambers the round? Does it eject the same round?
