    12 ga. 1 oz #8 loads game or field loads are what I started my son on. Federal cheapies from Walmart should work just fine. You may find better deals on cases online.

    It is easy to overthink shotgun games.
    Whichever range you plan on shooting at should have some recommended instructors you can connect with to coach you along on your first couple of rounds anyway.
