    DROS'ed a Benelli M2 tactical

So I have been without a long gun for a while and was on the verge of getting a decent AR or AK till I realized for the same price as a decent rifle I could get my dream shotgun. After handling both M4 and M2 tactical I couldn't let go of it and pulled the card out.

I used to own a super nova tactical but I ended up hating the desert camo on it. I also knew deep down I wanted an auto.

What sort of break in does the M2 need? I know many people cycle the Walmart cheap federal fine but I've read you should first clean and lube then run 100'ish rounds of hotter ammo like #7 or #6 shot + HD rounds first.

Anyone with a M2 have to do any sort of break in? If so does it eat mostly everything ok? I know the super low recoil stuff may not.

I also wonder, unless not even allowed, how daft I'll look showing up at the High Desert gun club for skeet with 18.5" ghost ring sight shotgun... But it's all I have. Would love a Browning Citori. Do ghost ring sights make skeet impossible?

Any tips from M2 owners for a newb is welcome!

P.S. Don't plan on an extension tube for a while since I also have to get follower and bolt handle, I love the current weight and balance.

    ><

To me break in is shooting the gun... buy any shell that is loaded over 3 dram and you should be fine Walmart has 12ga shells from 2 3/4 dram to 4 dram Winchester duck loads.....there is no need to shoot expensive buck or slug if your goal is break in or follow up shot practice ...the gun has no clue what is going down the barrel and neither does the shooter...recoil is recoil

As for shooting Skeet....you will have a big disadvantage and will develop the bad habit of focusing on your sights with the ghost rings....buy another barrel if you what to learn how to shoot moving targets

they don't need a break in, and should shoot almost anything. m1 and m2 are the most reliable semi auto shotguns you can buy. Just becareful about hanging stuff on it because its a inertia gun (also the same reason why they kick like a mule).

If you go to a skeet/trap field, they may have minimum barrel length requirement, and you will be at a disadvantage with a short barrel and no choke. I find ghost rings slower on the skeet and trap field, because you will lose track of the bird.

My advice to you is: buy a limbsaver pad or shell out money for the comfortech stock. If you find out you like trap/skeet, invest in a longer barrel w/ changeable choke tubes.

I own an M1 with interchangeable chokes and used to use it a bunch for skeet at my local club. shooting it side by side with other guns designed for skeet will make you aware real quick how bad it is for skeet.

that said my M1 is just about unstoppable at 3 gun or shotgun matches. Often times I have loaned it to other competitors when there guns go down or break.

good luck finding a second barrel for it. from what i have seen it would cost nearly the same amount to buy a second barrel as it would to buy an inexpensive skeet/trap gun.

"Just becareful about hanging stuff on it because its a inertia gun".

Very true, inertia guns have to be fairly light to operate. If they weight too much they won't cycle and you'll have a single shot.

An M2 doesn't need break-in, especially a Tactical if you are shooting Tactical loads, i.e. slugs and buckshot.

I have an M1 Tactical I reconfigured for gaming use.
M2 barrels are obtainable under $400.
Listen to all of the above.

Break in really is you learning to get behind the gun, and not to shoot garbage ammo.
Like 22's, you are going to have to manage a short/long/bad round.
It gets worse using budget bulk, better when you spend a little more.

Ok, should have said Kirk any gun, you get what you pay for out of your ammo.

Go grab a case of #6 Federal or Winchester 7.5 AA's (around 1300fps), pick an activity, and shoot it all.
I like to grab 100 low recoil slugs and punch out a shootnc.

There, you and gun have broken the ice.

Sadly for financial reasons when a buyer backed out of a sale to fund the M2 I had to cancel the DROS.

              Another time, M2.

Since I am more keen on skeet than home defense per se this might be for the best and allow me to save up for a Browning Citori instead at a later date.

Well the plus of the M2 over the M4 is that there are other barrel options for it so you could pickup a longer one at some point and it would make an awesome clay/bird gun.

As for the extension tube, the M2 will likely fall under the 922R legal requirements (for imported shotguns) which means you'll need to swap out a certain number of specific parts to keep it legal. And I'm up on this for the M4 but don't know if the M2 is the same. For example on the M4 you would need to change out the mag tube, follower, and another component like the hammer or handguards to keep the gun legal. Changing out the bolt handle doesn't count as it's not the eligible items list...at least for the M4. So you'll probably want to look into this before you go changing anything.
