Opinions on 870 Express Tactical Problem

After the last time using my 870 express tactical I noticed a couple problems with it. Where the barrel connects to the receiver there's some expansion in the reciever that leaves the barrel loose enough to roll over to about the 1:00 position and I get a FTE every time (have to disassemble to get each round out). The very last round I shot the previous outing was a 3" slug which is what I'm thinking did the damage, no problems before that. Is it completely trashed or is there anything that would make it worth trying to sell? I keep thinking about taking it to a buy back to at least get a gift card out of it. Thanks.

Look into the receiver and make sure the ejector is intact and not loose. Is your magazine cap walking out at all?

If the barrel moves m that then you have broken the tip of the ejector as that is what holds the barrel in place. This is generally caused by having a loose magazine cap or mag tube coupling. It is a Gun Smith repair so look for one in your area.

The tip of the ejector fits into that notch on the barrel stem. You will notice it missing when you look into your receiver.

Thanks AIPPI. The ejector cap was loose when I noticed the problem. I have a heck of a time getting the ejector back in to reassemble, I can't tell myself, but you must be right about a problem with the ejector.

If you can post a photo of the inside of the ejection port , we could see, otherwise. If there in not a portion of the ejector channel protruding into the relief in the barrel it is broken, and needs a new channel(factory/or good gunsmith.) Otherwise keep the barrelnut (magazine cap)tight as thats the only thing that sets headspace and holds the barrel on and keeps it from torquing(sp) when fired. The barrel could be missing the plunger on it or you might have a ill fitting type of sling attachment , mag tube ext. That why a photo would be good.A loose barrel nut causes the barrel to move when fired and breaks the ejector channel. The trigger group is not part of this problem.
Its really not that big a deal to replace the channel if you have a new channel, rivets and the right punches and know how. Take it to Bolsa or someplace close to you. The new rivets will show but you can cover them up with a side saddle. Good luck B

Thanks CALREB. Now that I know where to look, it looks like the end of the channel is broken off. I've added a picture to the post if anyone is curious. I'll probably be taking it in to Bolsa.
